Texas is lifting their mask mandate and opening up to 100%.....

what can go wrong.

I'm not sure what a mask mandate has to do with small businesses struggling but that's what their governor said....

So smart that Texas is going to sue Pennsylvania to overturn their COVID restrictions.

I love this.  I want to frame this.

Maybe I'll get one of those glass frame things for this post from Fracture.

I buddy lives in TN.  He sent me a link about this from a local news station and just said 'read the comments'.  If Romad gets his wishes on this virus morphing and targeting the ignorant, looks like my buddy and Dolly might be the only ones that would make it alive from that state.

Leadership matters.

In the grand scheme of things, the Texas decision may have some impact on the numbers, but the fact that we are now vaccinating probably limits the negative consequences some.

I just don't get why he doesn't wait another month or so, or why he doesn't open up vaccine registration to all Texas residents. It only seems fair that if you are going to take away all precautions, there shouldn't be restrictions on who can register to get a vaccine

I got one of those, it's really nice but was almost $60 iirc.   It was important to me.

Given what took place in Texas a few weeks ago, the plumbing analogy works far too well

well... if anything it'll provide a good test for the rest of the nation to follow... stay safe.

I just don't get the mask mandate thing.  That doesn't cost anything.  All it does is transfer the hassle to local jurisdictions and store owners/managers/staff to enforce which will lead to more confrontation about "freedom".

Framing is one of the most expensive things you can do.   Take a cool map of the Normandy Landings into your local Michaels and they ask you where you summer.

I would add that, watching the local news this morning, there is a lot of confusion among local government leaders and ISD Superintendents.

I wonder how much the Governor consulted with local stakeholders (my guess is close to zero... this was a political decision to throw a bone to the base after the electrical grid debacle)

saw a headline where 2 of his covid advisers said they had no idea this was happening..... one of them was a former FDA commish

didn't read the story.

After doing a bit of digging this actually makes sense. Especially if the students are allowed to take or retake classes geared toward advancing their education. Or even an attempt to improve on that D plus in third year Spanish

My only question is why limit it to athletes. Maybe allow a “post graduate” bridge year...

I was thinking the same thing. There is probably a statute of limitations.

Daughter spent her entire evening yesterday assisting in bouncer duties. And the mandate doesn’t end for another week.  She is a sommelier and the beverage director for a restaurant in N Dallas.  Her shop plans no changes to their Covid protocols for the time being and the staff was being overwhelmed by argumentative “freedom” doofuses.

I still do not get the hatred for mask wearing.  It is such a minor inconvenience.

Where are you going to get the teachers and space in class from? You can't just expand capacity for one year or hold everyone back a year.

I'd be annoyed as heck if I were the Grade 12 quarterback and the chap a yeah above decided to come back.

It's because they're being told to be annoyed by them. Hence the freedom BS.

I forget I'm wearing mine all the time. I'll come home and still be wearing it.

Having to wear a mask all the time was actually a great thing in the winter.  Kept the face warm outside.

and I think in MI it's amplified when it's a woman telling them what they must do.

So far just a lot of yelling, non violent threats, and cursing.  Not as bad as dealing with drunks at her former restaurant.  And those were doctors, lawyers, CEOs.

I am more concerned for her health with all those unmasked nuts yelling in her face.

Or even insist on enforcing a mask mandate while opening everything up. But to open up 100% and remove mask mandates is a recipe for disaster.
