This was the latest one I ran.  Looks great but I think they will make a few trades and change up the order quite a bit.

Worse defense in the league so they take offensive guys with 4 of their first 5 picks. In what F'ing world does this look great?!

I wish it wasn’t true but they have immediate needs almost everywhere.  OT, OG, RB, WR, future QB are all needs.  Really Center and TE are the only offensive areas without a need either this year or next.    Most of the FA signings have been on defense as was the most important pick in the mock draft.

It’s crazy how Quinn has torn apart the roster he inherited and 4 years later its significantly less talented.

In no universe should the Lions take a QB in round 2.  None.

The only way the Lions should take a QB before round 4 at the earliest (and 4 is a huge stretch) would be if Burrows falls to 3.  If that happens you have a real dilemma on your hands because he's the best QB prospect since probably Andrew Luck.

And even if that did happen, the offers to move up from the Dolphins or Chargers would be so great you'd probably have to trade down.  Like multiple first round picks.

We joke about "the scheme, the scheme, the scheme" and "rocket scientist" all the time, but there is absolute truth to it all. It's not about talent with this regime, it's about scheme fit and understanding their system and buying in. I truly believe Quinn and Patrica think they have outsmarted the rest of the league and that their system and the way they run things can makeup for a lack of talent and there for we end up with guys who may not be the best players on the field, but in their minds, better fit what they are trying to do.

You are technically correct.  It’s not all about talent and scheme does matter.  The ratio of success is still like 80% talent and 20% everything else.    It’s by far the most important thing in building a good football team.   If you rely too much on fit then you end up picking 3rd in the draft

Quintricia’s model for success can work with lesser overall talent if they had Tom Brady at QB and Belichick as the head coach.

we'll find out this year, because this is their last chance.

And I think I generally agree.  They have talent at QB and one receiver position.  Everywhere else they are talent deficient in an extraordinary manner, to my unqualified eye.

Wrong.   If by some out of left field chance Jordan Love is still available at 35 like he was in that mock then you happily take him.

Absolutely not.

Jordan Love has bust potential written all over him.  And to take that kind of chance early in the draft when you already have a bona fide really good player at his position already is reckless to the point of being stupid.

He absolutely has a ton of bust potential.  I wouldn’t take him in round 1.  He’s got all the physical tools that you look for in a modern QB and is great value at 35.  It’s worth the risk at that spot although I can’t imagine that he will be there.

You're confusing need with "positions that could be upgraded."

They need defense. They don't need a #4 WR high or a backup QB (and the whole having a QB in waiting thing is so overblown its stupid. It rarely works)

Hearing more that there may not be a trade option at 3, but Miami seems to not want Tua and with the wonderlic results, hoping that they'll be willing to throw in a pick to help ensure the Chargers don't jump over them. So here's my stab at this, in both cases dropping to the 5th pick and picking up #39 from Miami.  Like the first one more, but i'd take either one.

The Draft Network

5th Okudah. CB

35th AJ Espinesa. EDGE

39th D’Andre Swift.  RB

67 Kyle Dugger S

85 Matthew Peart OT

109 Darnell Mooney. WR

149 James Lynch IDL

166 David Woodward LB

182 Javelin Guidry CB

235 Yasir Durant IOL

PFF

5. Isiah Simmons S

35 Zach Baun EDGE

39 Kenneth Murray LB

67 Clyde Edwards-Helaire RB

85 Davon Hamilton IDL

109 Prince Tega Wanagho T

149 Javaris Davis CB

166 Darnell Mooney WR

182 Braden Mann P

235 Nevelle Clarke CB

This makes a lot more sense on The Draft Network...

1. Jeff Okudah

2. AJ Epenesa

3. Michael Pittman, WR USC

3. Matthew Peart, OT Conn

4. Zach Moss, RB UTAH

5. Jason Strowbridge, DL UNC

5. Harrison Bryant, TE Fl Atlantic

6. Raequon Williams, DL MSU

7. Jaylinn Hawkins, S Cal

It's closer.  A few of the players like Moss, Epenesa, Strowbridge and of course Okudah have been linked to the Lions.  The Lions have interviewed Moss twice, so that tells me they're very interested in him.  Of course, no mock is ever 100% accurate.

They need to score more points than their opponent, who cares if that comes by having a better defense or having a better offense.   In recent years there have been plenty of successful teams with terrible defenses, 2 years ago the Chiefs gave up just as many points as the Lions did last year yet were a player lining up offsides away from going to the Super Bowl.

On top of that defenses are extremely volatile in the NFL from year to year(in regards to scoring defense), they are heavily dependent on creating turnovers(which vast majority of cases are extremely random) and red zone performance.

This of course isn't to say that there aren't exceptions to this or going defense is a bad choice it's just showing that team defensive results can change drastically year to year and I wouldn't necessarily draft on what it appears like we need based off of last season.   Things can change fast in the NFL ultimately what's most important is getting the best talent regardless of position.

Basically I want them to draft whatever player is likely to help us either add more points on offense or take more points away on defense.   After all it doesn't matter if you win 35-31 or 24-21 as long as you win.

Right, and they can't fix everything.

Offensively they need a starting OG/RT and a top end RB.

Defensively they need a starting CB and an edge rusher.

Maybe Quinn can pull a rabbit out of his hat and they can fill - and hit on - all of these needs with their four existing picks for Rounds 1-3.

Fact.....

In 2019 Mel Kiper Jr predicted 7 correct first round draft picks, which was 10th place among draft analysts, and was more than he had in 2017 and 18 combined, where he had just 2 in 2017. Don't rely on analysts, mock drafts, or ESPN, the percentage of them being wrong is very, very high.... with that said, my 2nd round wish pick would be for Jonathan Taylor, RB please!
