Kings had 19 shots in the 3rd and 42 for the game, but the Wings win 3-1.

a lot of the shots earlier in the game were pretty soft chances for Howard - but they had the Wings on their heels over the last half of the third for sure. The Kings don't look to be the team they used to be, the Wings handled business like they should have.  I suppose Holland could trade away the goaltending or a lot of guys could get hurt but other that that we can forget about Hughes.  ?

It's funny, you can't be a Wings fan and not love Mickey Redmond, but I do find it kind of strange hearing him pine for the way the game used to be played, and of course he was in hog heaven after the melees in the Islander game.

I love watching the game being played in the league today. Somewhere Igor Lirianov is smiling.

Yeah, 70s hockey was thuggish. I didn't like the Broad Street Bullies at all. Younger fans today don't realize how many extended stoppages in play there were back then due to cleaning up after fights. The Soviets injected a much needed element into the league.

The mid-90s is still my favorite era of NHL hockey. It was a perfect mix of "toughness" and skill, and pre-dated every team adopting the trap. There were still enforcers, but they had to have some actual hockey skills, as well. I know this puts me in the minority here, but I miss hockey fights.

One of those nights.

Caps are a tough/good measuring stick. At this point the Wings main defensive effort against them isn't much more than waiting for the Caps to shoot and hope for a rebound onto a stick they can clear from the zone. I don't have a problem with them taking the best players available in the last draft instead of concentrating on D-men, but if Zadina and Velano don't crash it does look like at some point they are going to have to trade O to get D - which is fine.
