So Trump paved the way for any billionaire to run for president. When is Dan Gilbert going to run for president? With that said, Steyer is still a much better choice than Trump.

Can Gilbert buy the Tigers and run for President at the same time?  Is that why he sold the casino?

Thanks.

I probably concentrate on my Tiger replays (did 1951 during the summer and am now doing 1976 and Fidrych isn't doing well) more than I do the Tigers these days.  I'm also messing around with a 1901, 1936 and a 1937 Tiger replay as well. I have a 1907 AL and a 1966 AL full season replay going on, not to mention my own soccer game I'm selling. Gosh, now I see why I haven't been on the boards the last three or four years (whatever it was). :)

OOTP?

Other billionaires paved the way for Trump.

And this doesn't even mention Rauner, who led to Pritzker here in Illinois.

People love billionaires. People think billionaires are smart. They also believe billionaires are honest and grounded people who want only what's best for America.

Henry Cuellar has spoken of throwing his hat in the ring for 2020.  Probably too moderate for the current DNC, but he is smart and reasonable.

I like Cuellar, but I'm not sure what his constituency would be.

And I would add that's not so much a product of the current political environment either.... centrists have generally never fared well in Presidential primaries historically.

The problem is too few in the middle vote in the primaries.

I wanted to add this link re Cuellar.  I think that he is a candidate that could bring Texas, and the Latino vote.   If he had been running in 2016 against Trump, I could comfortably have voted for him.  A few policy differences, but no deal breakers for me.

He has done his job for Texas, even managing to position some of his legislation as specifically pro Latino when, in fact, it made the federal government pony up for the huge financial burden on our state and school districts for educating immigrant children.  Helps all of us.   This site infers that he is open borders, but that isn’t really true.

Is there actually anyone mainstream who is "open borders"?

Depends on how you define open borders. If you use the increasingly common definition of open borders, which seems to be "doesn't agree 100% with the Trump Administration views on immigration", then there a **** ton of folks in favor of open borders, including more centrist politicians such as Henry Cuellar.

If you use the literal definition of open borders, however, I'm guessing almost no one mainstream is in favor of them.

Yeah, I think you're right.  I'm pretty sure it's a FrankLuntzian term that's used to deride anyone who disagrees with Trump with little basis in reality when it's used.

I don’t know.  I don’t think that even Bernie advocates true open borders, but back when I was looking at figures about a third of Democrats do. I think the hardcore Libertarians do as well.

But as you say, might depend on the definition used.  Cuellar evidently advocates stronger border security without the use of a wall. And he is pro pathway to citizenship and amnesty for at least some undocumented residents.  But that isn’t open borders as I understand the term.

Like Lee said, I'm a cards and dice guy. I primarily play the original version of Replay Baseball, but the 1976 replay is the newer 6x6 version. I am trying to get the 1901 to about 1991 Tiger seasons covered so now I'm trying other games as well to do that. I have a couple Statis-Pro set from childhood, own a 1911 Strat set (want to do the 1911 Tigers pretty bad), some APBA sets (have a 1901 Tigers season started), some Hardball Wars sets and even a couple Payoff Pitch sets. Now I'm trying to cover the years I don't have with some super quality free games. For example, I'm going to play some 1907 AL games tonight with the National Pastime Next Generation cards I printed (a lot like APBA but I like it better) and now I'm looking at Ballhalla which also looks like a high quality free game (printing 1902 cards).

Anyone who wants to give a game a whirl for free should do a search for Ballhalla or national pastime (NPNG+) and give those games a shot.

One of the reasons I don't go on this site and on the computer as much as I did four or five years ago is just getting tired at looking at computer screens/phones all the time, so for leisure stuff I've completely done the 180 opposite with my personal life. I can't stand being on computers all the time and then doing it at home, so I dropped a lot of those activities. I had NOTHING against the board and other places I frequented, I just stopped using the Internet for a lot of my personal fun time. I flat out dropped the Internet at home and am super happy with that decision. Now I'm just adding some of that stuff back, and I did miss this place a lot.

But that's why I play cards and dice. I don't want to be on a monitor or a phone. It's what I grew up doing as a kid, so it's super enjoyable. I also sell my own soccer game called Nets Results Soccer. Actually, I need to start working on my MLS set soon.

Maybe I'll start posting some stuff here. The 1976 Tigers are amazingly flirting with .500 despite the fact Fidrych hasn't had a season close to the one he actually had. The dice have been pretty evil to him most of the season.

That's doesn't surprise me about your sim results on the 76 Tigers. I've done replays of certain seasons to see whether any players can repeat their individual greatness and I find that a lot of the time, the players fall short, but teammates pick up the slack and the team does pretty much the same, or even better.

Mark Fidrych's 1976 season may be the single most replayed pitcher season replay among the baseball board gamers. In most he does really well. But a game like APBA almost makes it impossible for you to have the Bird struggle.

Have you looked into Bill Staff’s stuff. His National Pastime board game looks interesting. As does the computer version.

I’ve picked up a few of his BBW home brews. Not sure how much he’s doing since Skeetersoft seems to have shut down

I use him a lot in online sim leagues (based on Diamond Mine) and he always gets hurt because it is based on his career and not just 1976.  It would make sense that he struggles in some simulated seasons because his success was based on great control and keeping the ball in the park, two things which are harder to sustain than strikeouts from season to season in real life and also in a well designed simulation.  Based on my familiarity with the basic APBA game, I would agree that it would be hard for him to fail there.

He's hurt by a pretty poorly rated Tigers' defense in my season. He's allowed something like 12 unearned runs.

Skeetersoft is done. I never tried any Skeeter sets. I don't have any of Staffa's sets.

I had my second-ever perfect game on vacation. A 1907 AL replay. The Browns' Beany Jacobson had it against Chicago.
