2018 Draft Pick Watch

Recommended Posts

The Tigers have the tiebreaker over the Giants. I think we're going to pull this #1 pick off. Team is really coming together down the stretch to lose these close ones. I have to give Brad props for that

JD, JV, JUp, Fulmer, Alex, JWil, Mahtook all out or gone. Miggy out/crippled. You could argue that's 25 WAR when fully healthy. Amazing.

It's too bad Victor is out, he'd help the tank by playing.

Exciting RE: Pedro Jr.

A little research on him.

Quote

"To me, he's one of the best players for July 2, 2017, right now," says Amaury Nina, president of the IPL, referencing the opening date of this year's international signing period. "Seven or eight teams want to sign him, have a lot of interest, so we're waiting to see what's going to happen. His dad wants him to go to college first."

"Let me tell you something," Nina says. "I had Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the IPL, too, and I don't say that Pedro's son has the same power Vladimir Jr. has, but it's going to be similar one day. Some players get power early, and some you have to wait a little bit more. I think Pedro is going to have to wait a little to have the same power as Vladimir Jr., but hitting-wise, I think they both have the same ability."

vlad jr. is 19, pedro jr. is 17, so i fully expect pedro jr. to be a top 5 pick in 2 years.

logic level: flawless

Brad's weakness is now a strength. It's kismet.

This feels like a pennant chase. I'd still give better odds to the Giants. Maybe they can scratch Sanchez from the last start- he's been pitching too well the last few starts.

I believe Ohtani will fall under next year's international allotment.  Also, I'm pretty sure the Tigers will not be in the running for his services, I think he's going to a contender.  They are also known to be in the lead for one of the top hitters in next year's Dominican class, one that might cost them a couple million; or their top allotment.

My post wasn’t serious.

Anyway, of course otani isn’t coming to the tigers. But if he signs this winter he is under the current allotment, I think.

Yes, he'd be under current allotment. Next period does not start until July 2.

Will the Tigers don goggles and spray bottles of pee over each other's head in the clubhouse on Sunday if they finish last overall?

Not players, but possibly in Avila's suite.

Don't think there's gonna be enough left for Otani...

The signing period for international talent began July 2 with the Tigers having a 2017 bonus pool of $4.75 million. They have since signed 19 players and have until June 15, 2018, to add others they’re still pursuing.

“We’re pretty close to the limit,” Moore said, “but there’s still some money to do some things. We’re still evaluating players, setting sights on a few more.”

That loss definitely hurt but we still hold our own destiny so its all good,  hopefully Ausmus made sure to let the players know that cause I'm sure they were all watching that game in the clubhouse.
