Paging @Buddha

The European club leagues don't start for a few more weeks, and the transfer window is still open. But there has been a fair bit of business conducted already. Club teams are on their preseason tours.

USMNT B+ team just won the gold cup.

My Everton team had an adequate season last year, finishing seventh and squeaking into the Europa league. Their first match is today.

They sold lukaku to united. That won't help them. Underwhelming Ross Barkley is on his way out.

They have brought in a few good players. Sandro Ramirez will be relied on to pick up some of the scoring slack with lukaku gone. Aging Wayne Rooney has returned. Davy Klaassen and Michael Keane should help. It's only a matter of time until Sigurdsson is bought, it seems. Keeper Jordan Pickford should be a plus

Still not enough talent to challenge for a champions league spot. But perhaps there is enough here to break into the top six

Not yet. I'm not sure she the determination is made by the league. I think it's at some point in the next year. It's likely Detroit gets one given who is backing them. Many of the other potential bids have run into roadblocks. The jail site is still an issue but I think they resolve it.

Sounds like the city or county or whatever are moving forward with the Gilbert jail proposal, so assuming they get through the red tape, which is a fair assumption, the path is clear for the soccer stadium to be built. It seems highly likely that Detroit will be awarded a team now.

EPL gets started next weekend.

Today, Everton take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Europa league qualifying campaign. They should be able to see this out. They would have one more two-leg qualifying round after this one.

Still no Sigurdsson deal, but looks close to being done.

It really is tough to see where MLS is getting these valuations. But I guess if you set a price and potential owners are there to spend it, then that's the price. The article mentioned that there are only a limited number of sports franchises to own. So it could be as simple a billionaire not caring if he loses money.

But they also can't just keep expanding.

For Gores and Gilbert, I think it's as much or more about the ancillary development opportunities around the stadium.

There is no doubt that soccer popularity is growing. They key is converting that to more MLS viewers. The more markets you enter, the more fans you create. And then these new local fans will be more likely to tune in to a game between other teams, or to watch the playoffs. It's all about that national tv contract, so it makes sense to try to get these new markets established before the contract is up.

Come on, @Buddha we need your predictions. Lukaku didn't waste any time. He's going to be so amazing with united.

Everton finally sign Sigurdsson for a ridiculous fee. It would be nice if they could eventually get good enough to overpay for actually good players. Still, it's nice to add another solid player.
