I believed this a year ago but the revival of Verlander and surprising seasons from Fulmer and Maybin has me believing we can stick with this core another season and not blow up the roster.  I do want a new manager though.

if the team sucks, you can start the rebuild in July by dealing JD, Upton, Iglesias etc.

I also would not mind moving one of Upton and Martinez, sacrifice some of our power, and add another athletic outfielder.  The best teams in baseball now clearly have more athleticism up and down their lineup than the Tigers do.

How do you get better in field with no prospects and a team locked into several long term deals? The pitching might be better organically. I think Rondon has established himself and you have a few other decent guys to build around in the pen. The only way to get better in the lineup is to get worse in the short term.

Not going to be easy for sure. I think their best bet is back off a bit and try to restock some talent. If you hedge a bit and this young pitching is as good as it looks you can still be competitive *and* do a little rebuilding.  I see the probably of them doing that as about zero though.

Just a sad pathetic season 10 games pissed away with bullpen. Startin peltme pissed away games. Finally asshate losing games. Then you ply a dog**** team the last 3 games and score 2 runs in 2 games. Pathetic heartless no adjusting group of  players.,

I think Brad did generally average with in-game management. I'd like to keep him around because I'd like to keep some consistency in player development that I think was a tentative plus throughout the upper reaches of the system. Boyd, Fulmer, Norris were all as good as could have been hoped for, and Ryan, Hardy, Rondon showed some real development.

I don't want him replaced just to be replaced. You better have a specific guy in mind if you're gonna can him.

I disagree with your last statement.  I think you make a decision on Ausmus independent of who the replacement would be.  I also think there is a time for change just for the sake of change.

Sorry, I don't think he has any feel for pitching.  I think  yesterday was a pretty clear example of that.   Pretty strange for a former catcher who was supposed to be great with pitchers.     Who decided Zimmerman should start yesterday?   Why did Shane Greene stay in as long as he did?   Just awful.

By making some good hard decisions. JD, Iggy, McCann, Boyd( less likely)  are chips that could be cashed in for similar talents that balance the team out and then some good free agent decisions. It can be done.

Agreed.  I think JD's value is probably higher than this winter than at the deadline given he is a free agent so that is a consideration if you don't want to pay him.  With Upton, even though this year was a tale of two halves, I think you can pretty much look at his track record to know what he is going to bring and he probably is tradable even with the big contract we gave him last season.

I think from an organizational standpoint, with now Avila in charge, there is a renewed focus on building long term. If they can Brad it'd be a signal that they're going back to short-term thinking. UNLESS you know the guy you hire fits and agrees with your people and your organizational philosophy.

I agree with this.  If they replace with the right person, I am all for it.  Just getting rid of him because they didn't win won't do anything for me.  If he has anything to do with the development of their young pitchers, that overrides any decisions he made.

I don't know what former poster he really is, but I've seen this act before. Very negative, gets criticized for it and goes overboard on being silly positive. Can't remember what poster that was.

And it bugged the living **** out of you all day. Mission accomplished.

Znn was a better choice than Anibal or Pelfrey. Boyd was hurt. Greene didn't get hit hard, he got beat on a bunt single and a slow roller through a drawn in infield.

Yesterday was a clear example of nothing.

it's the same act on every internet forum ever. somebody has to do it. they're doing a south park on it this season.

I would also prefer a new manager. Not that the complete season was Brad's fault, the fault is in the games he cost us, also cost us a playoff spot. For that  he needs to go, along with the man who kept him.

During Vin Scully's last inning he had this to say about his retiring (by way of Dr. Suess), "Don't be sad that it's over, be glad that it happened."

I think this applies to the Tiger season as well. The season was exciting down to the last day, down to the last inning. Of course we wanted to see them make the playoffs, but being in the thick of things until the last pitch was pretty darn fun.

For those in support of Ausmus, I don't understand how you can accept one first one playoff exit in three seasons and rationally believe he should be back.  Granted, players deserve a lot of the blame for the failures of the past three seasons but at some point, you have to look at the totality of what the expectations were for this core of players and how short we have fallen of those expectations.
