Who shall be Mr Three or Mr Four?

So, we know they want to add another pitcher who probably is in the $10m range. I would assume this pitcher would replace augment bolster Sanchez' position in the 3rd spot until Daniel Norris can own that. If Daniel Norris is our #5 because the guy we sign to be the 4th starter is better, we might have a great rotation.

If Samardzija (5/70)/Chen (4/55)/Iwakuma (3/39) don't sign for more than what I've listed due to draft pick compensation or whatever reason, I think they'd all be great. Especially as it'd only cost us a 3rd rounder now.

Ian Kennedy is another guy, maybe he falls to around 2/$20M. He might be the most likely guy for us at this point.

Chris Young, Fister, Simon, Blanton, Edwin Jackson would be economically minded signings as more inning eaters at 1 year $3M-$7M.

I cannot wait to post the "Welcome Back Edwin Jackson" or "Welcome Back Doug Fister" threads.

And all the commensurate complaining about how the cheap player isn't a borderline all star and being very concerned about the upcoming season and commitment of ownership if this is the type of deal they think will win them championships.

It might just mean that #5 is the guy they sign and Daniel Norris is #4 and i'd be ok with that if Sanchez is durable enough and effective enough to be what he is supposed to be at #3.

I think the "innings eaters" need to be separated, slotting JV at 1, Anibel at 2, Zimm at 3, Norris at 4.

Doesn't mean that the BP actually gets protected with that... but I would start with that first.

LOOK AT THAT POTENTIAL BULLPEN - you have Burke Badenhop, Joba Chamberlain, Jason Frasor, Joe Nathan, Fernando Rodney, Joakim Soria, Tom Gorzelanny - hey where's Valverde, he's an FA isn't he?

You look at a list like that and you say to yourself, you know, maybe the minor league FA list would be just as fertile at a fraction of the cost.

I think they should/will slot Norris at #5 just to keep his innings at a manageable level. Thinking long term, they would want him in the playoff rotation if they make it this year.

as our resident scouting expert pointed out, he threw 150 last year. 175 is a normal jump so inning control really isn't an issue.

what about old man mark buehrle? he just keeps going and should be a decent cheap 5th starter who would go for a 1 yr contract.

I think he decided to retire, but I'm not certain that he's officially done so.

He struggled in the 2nd half last season, and was left off of the Toronto playoff roster. I don't believe he was injured. In fact, they tried to get him to 200 IP for the season in the last game or two.

I don't know if he'd fit into the salary structure, but if money works ($20M last season, but it was a heavily back loaded Marlins' contract), he's definitely a guy to kick the tires on.
