I think signing and trading for top flight pitchers factored more into the rotations' dominance.

Of course talent is the bottom line but even great pitching talent can waste a lot of time figuring itself out. Jones seems to have helped JV, Max, Smyly and Procello in particular. His working helping Procello find lost velocity after soft tossing for a couple seasons seems like exactly the kind of thing you need good technical coaching for. Even if it didn't turn RP into a Cy Young it was the kind of demonstration that argues he knew how to break down mechanics and help guys figure out what they are doing.

Seems like there is a complete over haul of pitching coaches in the organization.

Henneman was let go and Maroth is being re-assigned.

Mike Maroth will not be back as Mud Hens pitching coach

Maroth has re-assigned himself to the Atlanta org. (Maroth hired by Braves as rehab pitching coordinator | www.myajc.com)

Maybe AA has a different philosophy on pitcher evaluation and development than DD and wants a complete revamp. We know DD's theory was that throwing hard was the one thing you couldn't teach. so he was prone to taking on pitchers with all kinds of other issues if they could throw hard. There is a certain irrefutable surface logic to that and in the days when JV was becoming a Cy Young winner, we traded for a guy that did lean command (Max), and we still thought Porcello would be his clone and and we had any number of bullpen prospects that threw hard, it didn't look like a bad strategy.

But looking back, JV was a 'one of', RP is big league pitcher but not because of his fastball, we've wasted who knows how many picks on young relievers that never learned to find the plate, and the most recent successful young pitcher to come out of the org was Smyly, who ended up being better than his harder throwing co-prospects. So maybe there are other ways to get to success.
