Aubrey Huff is making a comeback. Discuss.

I saw that. Hey, he's a lefty bat, and the Tigers could use that. Not sure how his glove fits into the equation, but if VMartinez plays 1B, and Cabrera moves to 3B, and Castellanos moves to RF, and JDMartinez moves to LF, I think Huff could work out well for the Tigers.

I wonder what Jarrod Washburn is up to?

The fire sale talk is classic Henning concern trolling, and it worked.

I doubt the team will struggle enough to go into fire sale mode. But if they do, verlander, Cabrera, kinsler, and Sanchez could all have enough value to teams with deep pockets. Maybe Iglesias and JD, too. Even Victor if he rebounds.

But when you have six or seven players that would be in demand, it's hard to see how you would need a fire sale because you would have a good team.

Now, if only a couple are good this season, then maybe it could happen. I just find that to be unlikely.

Tigers contacted Soria again.....maybe they're close on him. I wonder how much he's asking.

Have to go after Soria. There's pretty much no other RP options that are available as FA's, aren't ancient, and don't throw mid-80's. The question is where are the other two bullpen arms we need going to come from.

If the National's decide they have to dump Papelbon, and eat the requisite amount of salary, he's maybe another option. But you still need two more RP.

I want Storen. I think Papelbon is untradable for the Nats, and Storen has demanded a trade already. He only has a year left, so I don't think they could ask for a ransom to move him. Granted, it could be risky because maybe we can't resign him after the season. But I think he is the best potentially available (and affordable) closer out there.

Papelbon is tradeable, it just depends upon how much money they are willing to eat. They say they want to make a good baseball trade, and that clearly isn't going to happen for them. But he could be moved, and they could same some money from the trade, if that is important to them.

Storen is fine, but projected to make $8.8 million this year and a free agent after the season. You don't want to have to give up much for that kind of guy, because the difference between Storen and Soria is not great. I prefer Papelbon, assuming the buyer is getting a big discount in salary (maybe around $5-6 million or something).

If Soria is only looking at a contract worth $7 million/season, then you might be able to afford both Soria and Papelbon. That would go a long way towards fixing the pen.

Fire saleis very unlikely .

At the same time, its not hard to see why it gets attention as an idea

There will be no fire sale. 2015 was the closest this organization will ever come to that under Mike Illitch, and it cost DD his job.

We were the best team in the AL Central up until the trades. But our team was very top heavy, and when we traded three of our best players with that kind of ball club make-up, we fell in the standings fast. That was no surprise, even with Miggy returning from injury and JV starting to come on.

I'm not sure we can replace Price, Cespedes and Soria. But if we can replace a couple of those names, and then add more depth in the place where we can't replace (ie Price), then we will be right back to where we were pre-trade deadline. And hopefully this time with a healthy and productive Miggy and JV. And hopefully this time with some pitching depth, with Boyd, Greene, Fullmer, Cessa etc.

I actually really like where this club stands right now. We could be positioned very well for 2016, if Avila is able to make some player acquisitions that we need this winter. And after a disastrous 2015 season, I have to believe that Illitch (whether advisable or not) is going to increase payroll a bit to get more players in the door. But that's clearly my own suspicion.

A healthy Victor Martinez would help too.

I hope we do better than Soria and Papelbon

I don't think you can expect much better without trading significant talent away. I don't find that to be advisable here because we are still not a particularly deep organization, and because we don't have an obvious logjam of players at any one position. And because there are relievers available who can help for little cost other than just money. But if Clippard or O'Day et al are your flavor, fine, I just happen to prefer Soria to those guys. But I would be fine either way. Mostly I recognize that one of these guys will not suffice, and we need 2 (or better yet 3) quality relievers.
