Outside of McCann, does look like much catching wise on the big league roster. Just realized Romine's brother is their back up catcher.

Do the yanks need a backup catcher? Holaday ain't great but he's a decent backup. Would need to kick in more than that of course but holaday will have to be moved this offseason so if the Yankees have that spot open he seems like an obvious choice to be included.

Wilson was very good last year and is under control for 3 more years. Would imagine a significant piece would have to go to NY to make it worth their while.

On Tigers and Yankees and Wilson: Earlier, price was thought to be too high. At 3:30 p.m., Al Avila's media session was pushed back.

I haven't seen Wilson pitch before but looking at his numbers and pitch fx it looks like he has some good stuff. Touches 97 as a lefty and has solid swing and miss stuff. His bb rate is a touch high but nothing that is gonna kill you. If all it takes is some spare parts I'd love to have him.

His BB/9 is lower than Bastrdo's who figures to make decent money. He also seems to do equally well against righties so he isn't just a LOOGY.

Not seeing anybody else tweeting confirmation but...

Sources say the #Tigers will acquire left-handed reliever Justin Wilson for a pair of prospects.

whoever does the "welcome Justin Wilson" thread...use a pun about Just-in-time or something.

He's a great fit, hope they didn't give up too much.

It appears she was first to mention the Tigers interest in Wilson so maybe she has a good source.

Don't think I had ever heard of this guy either, though I might remember him vaguely as a Pirate. Henning sort of hinted that Joe Jimenez could be a component of this trade, which would make it a real mistake, IMO. Hope he's not going anywhere.

If it is true a back end of the bullpen of Wilson, Wilson, Lowe and K-Rod doesn't appear to be that bad. Especially if we get lucky and somebody like Rondon or one of our prospects break out too.

Eh. Jimenez has a really high ceiling, but it'd be considered a success if he ends up as good as Wilson. Take the sure thing.

Tigers get Tommy Field on a minor league deal. He's too clean cut to be gritty, but I bet he plays the game the right way.

Also his eyes are brown. Probably lazy-ish. Definitely not a hustler and I don't see grit at all.

Henning was purely speculating. That's what I hate about Henning. He presents his speculations as if it is real information.

Wilson is really good. Better than anyone I expected them to add at this point. Based on what multi-year relievers are getting in the trade market, I assume the prospects going NY's way will be good ones.

Surprised the Yankees are dealing him and talking about trading Miller. Do they really have such great pitching depth?

I doubt it would be Jimemez. Avila is trying to keep all his young pitchers. I don't see him trading one of his best prospects a middle reliever.

Don't get me wrong, this guy seems like a nice addition for sure. And three years of control is significant. I will wait to see who we are giving up, but he certainly makes our bullpen that much better. AA has done more in two weeks to remake the bullpen than DD did in 5 years.

Idk Donnie Kelly was pretty clean cut and people thought he was gritty. I guess it comes down to how many positions he can play.

Jimenez would not surprise me actually. It will be at least one player in that class.

Love what we are doing with the bullpen. And I hope we don't stop. Add all the depth you can possibly get after what we have gone thru the last few years.

Kelly had blue eyes though.

I really enjoyed his speculation the other day that JD wouldn't consider re-signing in Detroit because Comerica has kept his home run totals down.
