2015 Off-season thread

I don't value Cespedes as high as others. He walked even less last year and had a near career high BABIP. He also went off power wise in New York. He had a 317 ISO. Obviously that isn't going to continue. I think he's a good player but I prefer Heyward, Upton, and Gordon to Cespedes.

He was excellent as a rookie and excellent this year. I agree he's not a sure thing to repeat, but I get the sense that he had a difficult time adjusting to the culture and that he has come into his own now. Upton has had his problems too including a couple of years where he lacked power. I'd be happy with either one of them.

I would still like to address the Lefty-Righty imbalance in our lineup, and key in on OBP if that's possible.

That puts me in the Heyward-Gordon-Fowler camp...

Upton is a pretty decent on base guy too. He's pretty even against left and right pitching so I don't have a problem adding another righty. I do like Fowler if they're going the cheaper route.

If the Tigers skip the top couple tiers of OFer and want someone who hits right handed and has positional flexibility, Steve Pearce could be an interesting/realistic option. He played 18 games at 2b last year for Balt and can also play 1b.

Hyun-soo Kim. Don't let the A's sign this guy.

Kim has been one of the KBO’s most consistent hitters over the past decade. Nicknamed the “Hitting Machine” for his ability to put the ball in play, Kim is a career .318 hitter, ranked third among all active players with at least 3,000 plate appearances, and has a career on-base percentage of .406.

He has a career strikeout rate of only 10.5 percent. Kim is tops among all KBO left fielders in defensive innings played (2,633), putouts (590) and assists (21) over the past three seasons.

This year, Kim set career highs with 28 home runs, 121 RBIs, 103 runs scored and 101 walks. He slashed .326/.438/.541 while playing his typically solid defense in left field and filling in at first base. He only missed three games in the 144-game season, and struck out just 63 times.

Kim, listed at 188 centimeters and 100 kilograms (6-foot-2 and 220 pounds), won the batting title in 2008 with a .357 average, and led the KBO in hits in 2008 and 2009.

On XM Avila just talked about potentially moving Pelfrey to the Pen for the 2nd season if the youngsters are ready. He specifically mentioned the 8th inning.

He also mentioned currently working on LH reliever. Sipp and Bastardo were mentioned to him and he said they were looking at FA options and trade options. In regards to OF, he said he can't say they will make another big move. He didn't rule it out, just said he couldn't say they would do it.

I don't think any of those things are that bad.

I don't either. But these are strange times we live in.

Heard Indians are talking about a 1-year deal, including an option, with FA Rajai Davis. Who played 112 games with Detroit last year.

I don't either. We don't know what happened with Chapman so I'll reserve judgement. I also agree with his point about domestic violence. I have a friend who was in an abusive relationship with a woman. It does go both ways. How that pertains to baseball's policy I don't know since all the players are men. The race thing is meh. White people don't run as fast as blacks and Hispanics. If the races were flipped, it would be a bigger issue.

Sometimes abusers don't have pants on, and that can make for strange times.

Ditching the pants can make you faster. A way for the white guys to make up a little ground.

I was wondering why Dusty Baker was all over my Twitter. I don't think he said anything so bad either.

Is dusty baker building an Olympic track team?

For what it's worth, the baserunning leaderboard has a bunch of white guys on it.

#Tigers remain in hunt for a utility player (in addition to Andrew Romine). Preferably a right-handed hitter who can play left field.

Ben Zobrist is a switch hitter. I would be fine with Zobrist.

Looking at the free agent list, and about the best utility player who can play OF and is right handed is Mike Aviles. This player will almost surely have to come from a trade.

A bench of Pearce, Maybin, salty, and Romine would be pretty good.

I forgot about Pearce. I also wonder what the status of Prado is. Seems like the Marlins are looking to sell so maybe he is available via trade.

That's because the advanced base running stats are biased. They were invented by white guys.

Pearce was actually born and raised in Lakeland, Florida. Seems fitting he would sign with Detroit.
