Unfortunately, this isn't this first time this happened to Rondon.

Man, you would think he would be able to put his head down and do the work considering the payoff he'd get in a couple years if he does so.

I presume at this point they'll either trade him or stash him at AAA until he dominates on and off the field for a full couple months.

Gotta hand it to this organization. When it has a bad year, it's not just a bad year – it's a spectacular and unprecedented disaster, with new atrocities right around every corner.

Meanwhile, how in the HELL is this season not over yet? I swear it seems like about 8 months ago that we traded everyone.

September has been their best winning percentage month since April....

Don't like it. Would prefer they lied, said he was working hard, and traded him. But maybe no other org was dumb enough to want him

1.49 WHIP and 4.68 career ERA out of the pen. WTF are we going to get for THAT? I will answer that for you. Nothing. The only thing he can do to help us...is to come back next year embarrassed or simply more motivated to realize his potential and post a sub 2.00 ERA out of the pen.

This is likely another nail in Ausmus' coffin. I'm not blaming Ausmus for Rondon's lack of effort, but it doesn't help Ausmus' cause to remain our manager in 2016.

I don't know that I agree. Do we know who made this call? Was it Ausmus or Avila? Heck, it could have been Jones. Probably likely some combination of the three that decided enough is enough.

But, regardless, I think Ausmus' fate has been sealed before this.

His time as a Tiger is done.

No, I don't think so. Two things to try first:

(1) Just from a pure pitching and recovery from surgery standpoint, is he ready to pitch or is he still a thrower?

(2) Let's see if the new coaching staff can get through to him if in fact his work ethic could use a boost. I don't necessarily blame Ausmus & Jones for Rondon's behavior, but a different voice might get his attention a bit better.

I don't think his time as a tiger is done, but who knows. If someone offers something of decent value for him, then that's a different story. I'm just not sure there are many teams out there that would be interested in doing so, given his injury history and poor performance this year, combined with whatever these issues are.

Assuming no one offers a decent trade, he will be right back with the team in the spring. He's got too much potential to just be let go. But he will obviously have to improve his attitude.

If he fails to take advantage of another chance, that's on him, but I do think he will get one.

Well, normally it would be a roster issue. And they would have to demote him, or put him on the DL, although I guess there may also be some sort of rarely used inactive/restricted list option. But with expanded rosters, I guess there is latitude to just send a guy home without a roster move. You just pay him to go home and think about things. But it does make me wonder if the Union gets involved here.

Not sure why the union would get involved as long as the Tigers pay him.

I don't think the Tigers organization are obligated to allow him into the clubhouse or team practices if they don't want him there.

The long struggle of coming back from TJ,almost certainly affected Rondon's already shaky command. For a guy with a history of attitude/effort problems, that's not a great combination. Certainly Rondon's stock has taken a hit, but for a team so desperate for BP arms, no way would I dump this guy. Maybe this public shaming works, maybe it doesn't, but either way, chances are he's going to be a much better pitcher next year.

I agree, I think he gets another chance next season. Unless they get a great offer for him, which seems to be unlikely given the circumstances. He doesn't earn much so there's no reason not to keep giving him shots at this stage.

What's really unfortunate (or maybe fortunate depending upon how you look at things) is that Rondon had a chance to work hard the last few months and earn the 2016 closer's role, or another back of the bullpen role. And he tossed that away. But at least this way the organization knows now that we need another RP on top of what we already thought we needed for next season. Much better to find this out in 2015 than when we are trying to compete again in 2016.

I agree that it might be a stretch, but I'm sure they could find something, as this is pretty unorthodox in my opinion. Even if its just reputational, Rondon probably could conjure an argument for mis-treatment, and the Union would probably be happy to push it for him. .
