That is the obvious choice. Why not? Could he be worse?

Actually, I fear Gardenhire might be worse.  Ilitch will remember he won with the twins a decade ago and give him a five-year deal  even though his teams have been horrible this decade.

Lot of DSR jag-quality reporting on twitter that he is in fact gone on Monday.

That's Gregg Henson and the, ahem, sources that he uses.

Yeah, that's quite a great job of reporting on their part.   Wait, according to them Ron Gardenhire was the Tiger manager.....Oh wait, he's not?   Well there goes all their credibility forever......they took Bernie Smilovitz with them too.

It sure doesn't take a lot of ace reporting to know that he is probably gone on Monday.   I called it here before Detroit Sports Rag and that was just a hunch based on the disintegration of the season, I don't have any "sources".  (I used to have a Lions source but Lewand fired him after he got a DUI, imagine that hypocrisy after Tommy had two).

No matter tomorrow's outcome,  I believe it will be a Monday Morning Massacre as I am expecting Ausmus, Wally Joyner and Dave Clark to all get the boot.  It just makes sense with Toledo departing for a road trip that they just bring Lloyd up to manage now instead of waiting until Thursday, probably gets a 3 year contract (the rest of this year and two more).  I think Lamont stays as bench coach for this season and Omar moves over to third base.    Hitting coach, possibly Leon Durham.   First base coach - Maybe Tram in the short term........Maybe Carlos Guillen in the long term.

This does have a similar feel to when Randy Smith and Phil Garner got the boot.   That was on a Monday too.

As far as this idea that Brad should get a shot to manage against the upcoming crappy teams.   I don't really care about that.  If they want to be good, they have to beat good teams, or at least split with them.

Sonics, you actually used some analysis here.  Sometimes deduction which considers logistics and process can be better than a source.

Lloyd is managing Toledo?  Well, they're in last place right now.  Things are in a sad state.   What about Dave Clark?  At least he has some energy and zip in his step.

These other guys walk around and interview like they're on Valium.  I can't even imagine how mad Illitch is right now.

Do you want someone like Ozzie Guillen?

I don't think McClendon will be offered a long-term deal.  He has had no success as a manager. I think Ilitch is going to want a big name this time around.  McClendon would probably be hired on an interim basis.

I don't know.   I think it would be pointless to replace a lame duck with a lame duck.   I would prefer Gibson and I had a theory that they brought him back to stay close to the team last  year...........just in case, but then he got sick.   I like Gibson for the job because he does have experience turning a bad team into a good one (though not in the same season).   His health might be the issue.  We don't really know what his day-to-day limits are.     I wonder what Omar Vizquel would be like, but don't want another skipper with no experience.   Could Trammell be a decent manager given some good talent?   I don't want to find out.   Outsiders would be Bud Black and Ron Gardenhire.   I like Joe Girardi and I think he might be available in the very near future, but not by tomorrow.    Lloyd makes, what, 1.3 million dollars to be a AAA manager.  That seems high, very high, but I don't know what others make.  Sounds like an amount you'd pay someone to not take a coaching job in the majors.  They could not force him onto Brad's staff, so it seems that he was brought back to be close for this reason.   But, I don't know, maybe other AAA managers make a million a year.

a little surface analysis.  If Al Avila is a bay of pigs type of Cuban...he might not like the guy who thinks Fidel was a-ok.

Doesn't mean that he can't put that aside...but it might be out there.  I never thought Ozzie was too hard in his support for Fidel but just made a stupid comment.

And I could totally see them bringing back Carlos Guillen in some kind of capacity.   He seemed like a leader when he was around and I think they need that connection.

You just said in the post before you didn't want a manager with no experience.

Plug in Clean Gene to finish the season. Then go after Dave Martinez and hope the Maddon magic is there.

He'll have to have an assistant punch him once in a while to keep him awake during the games.  That's probably really what's wrong with Ausmus.  Everytime he looks to Gene for guidance, he's asleep.

What would be the point of hiring mclendon? He hasnt had any success as a manager either.  Unless illitch really did call leland and beg him to come back and he told him to hire lloyd.

Same with trammell.  He had zero success and was run out of town by the veterans.  Gibson is too sick.

Has to be gardenhire or guillen or bud black or someone like that.  Can they snatch dave martinez away from the cubs during the season?
