Not a fan of this.

Not sure what to make of this either. Gose started out like gangbusters but then had trouble hitting at all, from what I remember. He can fly, for sure, but Travis seems like a steep price to pay for a guy who at best may be a fourth OF. I guess they view him as the platoon option with Rajai?

He's a lefty bat we wanted in some capacity, but I don't know that his OBP inspires a lot of confidence, at least so far at the MLB level. But he is only 24 and seems to have been a pretty steady .350-.360 OBP guy in the minors. He also stole 70 bases in 2011 at Double A. Maybe he becomes a better version of Quintin Berry?

at a glance, not a big fan, but am warming to the idea since i was a gose fanboy a few years back. gose would be our rangiest CF since gary pettis. strictly a #9 hitter at this point. much closer in age to travis that i thought.

the bad news is that we are now officially out of prospects. time to sign a bunch of cubans.

We already had a strictly number nine hitter in Iglesias.

Maybe I've missed something with Gose, but I'm losing faith in Dombowski quickly. I would have expected more for a decent prospect like Travis.

I think this says 1) they are valuing the KC model of defense first a little more than in the past and 2) they don't have the money necessary to sign a CF nor the prospects or willingness to trade for a better one.

So with all that in mind, this may end up being ok. I don't like losing Travis, but so be it. Gose is faster than AJax and we need a guy out there who can haul everything in. He's still young enough that if he learns to bunt for hits or just figures out a little something, maybe he will end up being a .250-.260 hitter like he was all through the minors.

Gose is just 8 months older than Travis and has some good tools - speed and defense. Who is to say that Travis is not another Tony Giarratano?

Gose is 24, Travis is 23. Gose has had time in the majors but still is probably more of a high ceiling type than Travis, who maybe has a higher floor. The only issue with Gose is a very large one, in that he swings and misses way too much.

But I think at worse he's an outstanding defensive CF and can at least platoon at a .320 OBP, which sure works with Davis. If he ever makes contact at an average he'll be realllllllly good.

Seriously, can this lineup afford three defense-first/only hitters (Avila, Iglesias and Gose)?

I don't think that Avila is so bad with the bat that of say he is defense only, but if a team is going to have such players, SS, CF and C are the correct positions to have them in.

Of all the lineups that can afford it, we can.

Castellanos will probably be better next year, so a 2-6 of Kinsler-Miggy-VMart-JD-Casty is about as good as any in the league. We still need someone who can lead off, though.
