2014 Trade Deadline Chatter

The Tigers could have used Dunn especially with Cabrera ailing. He also would have been their only quality pinch hit LHB off the bench late in games if/when Cabrera ever got healthy and useful again.

Could have been the 2006 matt stairs. Not a guy to burn a roster spot on in postseason but a body that could help win a game down the stretch.

Even if we put Cabrera on the DL I would much rather have Torii and Victor share 1b/DH and play Carrera, JD and Davis in the OF than give Dunn any PA. His OPS holds up because his walk rate is good, but he is such a bad base-runner to put on 1st base that it undermines the value of his OBP. He creates the 'Prince' problem but even worse..

De Aza's value comes strictly as a platoon player off the bench.

2014 vs. RH .276/.333/ .404/.747

It was a good trade for Baltimore

They didn't get him to hold down a corner spot for the next three years, they got him to give them someone to come off the bench against RH.

Same with Dunn. He's not in their long term plans. He's some pop off the bench against righties and a guy who might be able to draw a walk. They lost a lot of power giving up Cespedes. Probably more then they anticipated, thus the trade for Dunn.

2014 vs., RH .232/.351/.457/.808
