It would really be horrible to get a talented relief pitcher at a good value to help our ballclub. Are you telling me that you wouldn't want him on a cheap deal to setup simply because you don't like him? I hope you are kidding........

If we have to deal with Chamberlain in the old English D next season, I don't have a problem with adding Balfour to the pen, salary pending of course. Heck, this might end up being the Dombrowski late winter special.

I always thought the cameraman incident was way overblown. Rogers told the cameraman to leave him alone. He continued to bother Rogers anyway, so Rogers shoved him. Then, the cameraman started laughing with his friend. I think he got what he wanted. As for Balfour, he's no more of a jerk on the mound than Valverde was. If he came to Detroit and did well, Tigers fans would start to like him really quickly.

Balfour has a much worse reputation than Kenny did. Balfour would be bad for club house chemistry. I don't think the Tigers would take him for free.

We'll all root for the Tigers, regardless of who puts on the uniform, but I agree with this. I'd rather root for guys who seem to be good dudes and don't screw up the clubhouse vibe. This guy seems like a complete a-hole, and I really have no interest in adding him.

So Choo goes to TX.

What a bummer.

So are the Tigers actually just cutting payroll and rebuilding while trying to remain contending?

I'm excited about the Ausmus regime but it seems more like a cover for a team that's expected to win it all, but an excuse for why they won't.

I'm just not as excited or inspired by this roster as is.

It seems like there's still a lot of work to be done, but all were getting is the

"Were pretty much set" treatment.

Somethings gotta give?

Hey, maybe we'll sign another guy I hate, Nelson Cruz!

I'm with you on the 'meh' feeling overall, but who the hell knows what will happen. We tried it the other way for 3 years and didn't win the World Series. Maybe we will win it this way. I like the speed and defense we have now. We may not blow anyone out this year, but who cares – as long as we outscore a bunch of teams one run at a time, I'll take it. We still have the best starting pitching in the American League, and arguably the best closer.

IDK, I get the feeling that despite Mr I's age, the management of the Tigers is beginning to look much more like a traditional 'in it for the long haul' type of team sports management that used to be the norm - as compared to the boom and bust. build and fire sale cycle that so many teams seem to have adopted in more recent years.

Would you have wanted to see Choo on the Tigers for 7/120, but not be on the Tigers at 7/135?

I would have been satisfied if he was on the team at a fair price, yes. Jumping up and down like we got the steal of the century? No.

I did see some rumors about concern with his athleticism and how he would age, so I kind of cooled off on my evaluation of him, not having seen him lately.

I would have been very happy to watch him play on the Tigers either way.

Why do people keep saying they're cutting payroll? Their payroll is higher than what it was last year. I think Yankee syndrome has set in where people can believe that paying more money is paying less.

It would have been nice to have Choo for next year, but 7 years is a long time at that salary. The Rangers had a lot more long-term flexibility to pull that off. The Tigers have to guard against becoming what the Phillies are today; a team going nowhere with a huge payroll consisting of a bunch of old players. If they actually re-sign Cabrera at $30 mil a year or whatever it'd take, they'd have around $95 mil committed to just 4 players in 2016 (Cabrera, JV, Kinsler + the payments to Texas and Sanchez). That probably gives about $60 to $65 million for the rest of the team. Another long-term deal to a 30+ player probably wasn't in the cards b/c while they did shed Fielder's deal, they still had to take back Kinsler and he's not on a good deal either. They need to stay with more short term deals to FA's and try to either acquire or draft and develop good, cost-controlled players.

MLB's 20 Greatest Games 2009 Tiebreaker: Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins

I missed this game live and have only seen a snippet here and there. Why any Tiger fan would want to relive it, is beyond me. I hear it was a GREAT game but I'll pass ;)
