We could move the salary and build up our farm system at the same time IF we decided to blow up this team. Jeff Weaver and Matt Anderson are basically our only two commodities all of baseball would want and we'd have to use them as bait when trying to move Dean Palmer, Damian Easley, Bobby Higginson, Jose Lima and Dmitri Young.

Mitch Meluskey and Rob Fick would probably garner interest as well. Chicago Cubbies for one are looking for a starting catcher as todd Hundley is stinking up the joint again.

Moving those 5 players, would cut the Tigers payroll to about $25 M this season.

Problem being is anybody in their right minds going to support a team fielding Jacob Cruz, Andres Torres and Wendell Magee in the OF, Craig Paquette, Shane Halter, Damian Jackson and Randall Simon across the infield with Mike Rivera and Matt Walbeck holding down the catching duties? And with a staff that has Steve Sparks, Mark Redman, Nate Cornejo, Seth Griesinger and Shane Loux/Brian Moehler and a closer named Jose Paniagua.

I know one things for certain, the afromentioned line-up could do no worse than the Tigers are doing now - and at a discount of $30M dollars, an d with the promise of a better future ahead.

Dmitri Young is Randall Simon with an opportunity. Both are all or nothing hitters who never take a walk. Plus Simon plays better defense. Damian Jackson equals Easley in the field, and his offensive game is probably better suited for Comerica. Paquatte has been playing all season anyways, Magee is a better defender than Fick and replacing Higginson with Jacob Cruz doesn't matter because we will suck anyways.

Enjolras...

You like hit the nail on the head. If we get rid of Higgy, Fick, Meluskey, Young, Weaver, and Anderson - fan attendance would be worse than Montreal.

I do believe there are GMs dumb enough to take Palmer or Easley off our hands - I'd really like Dombrowski try Easley for Dellucci. After all, Easley lives in Arizona in the offseason and sometimes don't players start playing better when they're home? Arizona loves vetern players and Easley is better than Jay Bell. Arizona also starts Steve Finley over Dellucci so you can tell they're not in love with him or anything. A straight up trade Easley for Dellucci might just go.

K.C. signed Knobby this offseason and he doesn't have much left in him so a trade for Palmer just might go. Raul Ibanez isn't anything special at DH and Palmer could play DH full time. Wouldn't expect much in return.

My guess is that three years from now you're going to demanding Illitch give Dombrowski a contract extension.

If he can turn this team into a winner, I'll demand Illitch give him anything he wants! (Hoping it will happen)

I'll even vote for him for governer...even if he's a democrat!

I can only tell you that the story I've heard for the last 7 - 10

years is exactly the same -- rebuild! We're the the rebuilding

process, we're gonna rebuild --

I'm sick of rebuiding....You can't rebuild something that was never

built in the first place...

Dombrowski, unfortunately, has inherited a team that has been making the same promises for too long.....times up --

produce or expect something really bad to happen. I'm talking about complete fan shutdown -- it's on the horizon.

Randy Smith is gone. DD is now in charge. You can't fault him for Smith's mistakes. Yes you can still fault Ilitch and be pissed at him but what good is that going to do? He's got a baseball guy in there now who's had success in the past in more than one place.

It's not possible to rebuild through the FA market, or at least not smart. Examples have been cited.

I can tolerate losing as long as I know there's a foundation and plan in place. You can get in the stadium for $8 and pay $5 or less to park. It's not expensive to go. Really, what difference in your life does it make if they win or lose? Does it pay your bills? Does it make you sleep better at night? Does it help you perform in your job better?

If it weren't Dombrowski in there, I'd be much more skeptical but at this point, I don't know what else Ilitch is supposed to do besides sell the team to a multi-billionaire who will just totally outspend on every FA hoping some will come here.

Face it, with this team he's lost a lot more than all of us combined a million times over. I think he knows better than any of us what a failure he's been so far with this baseball team.

I'd actually say yes. I mean what players are remaining from Randy Smith's watch?? Bobby Higginson, Mike Morath and Brandon Inge?? Smith did acquire Omar Infante as well.

Our farm system has gone from bottom five to middle of the pack under Dombo's watch as well. Still a work in progress, but moving in the right direction.

If you can't see that this team is making a big turnaround in both young talent and vertan talent, then you're just not looking. Sorry Billie, but both of those areas are far better now than they were a couple years ago. Lighten up a little.

I think they are re-built to the point of being respectable and being able to dream about contending in the AL central if a lot of things go right. That's short-term and I see it as a bridge to the more important re-building.

The long term re-building is still in the early stages though. The key there is player development and I don't think they have made enough progress in that area. Hopefully, David Chadd can get them going there.

We didn't have the seperate team forums at that time.
