Terrible Beatles Songs

Recommended Posts

I'm leaving this thread. If someone mentions a song off Rubber Soul, ban them please.

+1 (I love that album so much it makes me sick!)

I can't believe we have a thread discussing this. :cheeky:

I don't like "Ob La Di", but I don't hate it. It's just annoying.

Ugg. The Beach Boys material sounds so horribly dated. They are one of those bands that get played occasionally and that's just enough for me.

Good Vibrations and Wouldn't It Be Nice are the only Beach Boys songs that I think are worthy of hearing more than once a year. I would never ever consider anything they did a "masterpiece" but that's just me.

The only record of the Beach Boys that matters is Pet Sounds. All other songs/records are dated (except "Good Vibrations", which I consider a part of Pet Sounds because it was recorded during the same period).

Pet Sounds = over-rated. A couple of decent songs but nothing even remotely special about it.

Sorry, I wasn't listening to music back then so I don't have any appreciation of how it changed music. I listen to it now and it's not enjoyable IMO.

Pet Sounds IS overrated, but it is still a great, great album. It's only overrated because people put it in the top 5 of all time, which it is not.

Again, for me it comes down to consistency. The Beach Boys weren't consistent enough to have any entire album be considered a unified masterpiece. But their best individual tracks are.

"Hey Beatle Fans what are some songs you don't like."

"Zeppelin man!"

"I must rethink all i stand/live for. I think I'll climb a tree, cut the soles off my shoes and learn how to play the flute. Change who i vote for. Go vegan. My world has changed..."

Hold on, I've been on this thread for a week and just realized that the original post names "She's Leaving Home". That's not a terrible song at all. The worst I'd say about it is that maybe it sounds out of place on Sgt. Pepper's, but that song really draws me in. "Fixing A Hole" is the only blah song on that album, IMO.

It's asking too much for anyone to have to appreciate the historical significance of it in order to like it. If you hate it in 2011 terms, you hate it. Case closed. No need to explain.

I enjoy it in its historical context, so I like it.

I don't think it's out of place. The whole album is unique and unusual, so to have a beautifully orchestrated song preceded by a psychedelic song and followed by a twisted circus romp is perfectly acceptable. That's the beauty of Sgt. Pepper's, that the songs individually and collectively are pieces of art put to music.

Well it was the first record made after Paul was killed and William Campbell took his place, so you'd expect that "eclectic flair" to surface.

"She's Leaving Home" feels like it's 20 minutes long and sounds like a song that old people would call "beautiful." It contains a harp and men singing falsetto. It's garbage.

I guess I'm an old 32.

I am wary of "overrated" claims of any sort. Smacks of an "I know better," claim that is aimed at the people who hold said object in high regard rather than at the object itself.

In fact, overrated claims are overrated.

Calling out people for calling something overrated on a message board when no clear standard for ratings has been established is overrated.

I didn't see this thread when it was started, but even John Lennon said that "Run For Your Life" was the worst song he ever wrote for The Beatles. I agree with him. I also agree with those who listed "Maxwell's Silver Hammer".
