Out of the current tigers, who has the best chance of getting a statue in COPA with the other greats?

List:

Brandon Inge: Not the best, but loved here and is a symbol of nit and grit that resembles the tigers excellently. Hardest worker on the team

Miguel Cabrera: With the exception of Cobb, greatest hitter we have ever had ( Followed by Greenberg and Kaline ). Not saying he's done more than those two, but he is a more talented hitter.

Justin Verlander: I remember meeting him when in Minnesota for the first time, and telling him that I thought he would be the next great tiger. Most talented pitcher we have had in a long, long time.

Magglio Ordonez: Won a batting title here and hit one of the most dramatic post season home runs ever. His legacy here may be greatly determined by how we do this year.

Brandon Inge?????!

LOL Isn't there a policy of some sort that only players that are in the HOF have statues? Or did I just make that up. But Cabrera is the easy answer, but I'm gonna say Casstelanos. And I'm gonna bump this thread in 30 years. Book it.

I meant to vote for other, but apparently I hit Ordonez. So who knows, maybe it's Ordonez. If Mazeroski has a statue for hitting a homerun, why can't Maggs?

Willy hortan isn't a HOF I don't think and he has one. Verlander came up a tiger so thays going for him.

Although I voted Cabrera, it's going to be hard for modern day players to get a statue, due to the additional player movement you see nowadays. BTW, Tram & Lou should have a statue, seems like a no brainer to me. Probably Freehan as well.

My dad and I were just talking about how cool a duel statue would be if those two in COPA

You are very close, but not correct. Those Tigers that have their "uniform number" retired are the ones w/ statues in LF (and Harwell, who is located in a different area of the ballpark). I say "uniform number" because you all probably noticed that Cobb didn't wear a number.

For me it was a toss up between Miggy and JV, but I gave it to Verlander as he has been a lifelong Tiger thus far. Those who have statues already were Tigers players for most of their career, and those who didn't stay only played a few more years on other teams (that are not of any real significance compared to the rest of their career). Magglio and Miguel had started with other teams, and you can argue that they made a name for themselves before coming to Detroit (remember who already has a WS ring from '03).

That's my main reason for choosing Verlander here, just based on the trends of the already existing statues. (NOTE: Prove me wrong Miggy, or have them both out there someday)

This thread just rubs salt into the Eddie Bonine wound.

The Eddie Bonine Statue theme was like one of the bizarro worlds that Superman comics sometimes enter to explain alternate plotlines. They sell more comic books because they allow the writers more freedom.

Right now I imagine that the alternate universe Eddie Bonine is working on his 98mph knuckler that he'll combine with his behind the LH batter's head to the lower outside corner screwball. Whereas the mirror image Eddie wears a goatee and pitches for the Phillies.

Verlander has a chance but he'd have to maintain his 09/10 level of production for the better part of 6 or 7 more seasons. Considering he's turning 28 in a month, that would be pretty tough.

28 isn't bad at all, and he's proven time and time again he's the most durable pitcher in MLB.

If an option was none of the above I would have chose that, so I didn't vote. I totally agree with the post of DaYooper.

It would be weird though if 50 years from now when my grandchildren view Verlander and Cabrera the same way I view Kaline and say Horton that there's no statues from this era. I understand what Yoop is trying to say though, with the way baseball works these days its hard to find a loyal player who stays with the same team from the time he's drafted to the time he retires.

Cabrera would be the current Tiger most likely to get a statue, but it depends on a lot of things. First as mentioned Cabrera wasn't always a Tiger, although he came to Detroit at 25 which is very young with many prime years left. It will come down to if Cabrera is re-signed by the Tigers after his current contract is up, and if he reaches certain milestones and breaks records as a Tiger. He needs to finish his career as a Tiger, and hit 600+ home runs and/or break the Tigers home run record (Al Kaline 399) as a Tiger, he has 109 as a Tiger. 3,000 hits, An MVP or two, along with leading the Tigers to a world championship will really help. Also he needs to get inducted into Cooperstown to get a statue, but if he does most of the above that shouldn't be a problem. I think Cabrera will do most of the above, but even if he does a statue could be a long time off. Verlander would be the second most likely Tiger to get a statue but I don't think he is as likely too.
