Great news. I love them, although I think their latest record (The Crane Wife) is a step below the previous two.

Dinosaur Jr-"Beyond"

-I could listen to J. Mascis play guitar forever, and his voice is one of those wonderful quirky ones. I normally hate extensive soloing, but this stuff is brilliant. I like this album better than anything since "Where You Been." And the Lou Barlow songs are surprisingly excellent as well (I know I'm in the minority, but I don't really like him...)

Modest Mouse-"We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank"

-Excellent album, but has a lot of very obvious and very subtle negativity to it. More than I expected, even from them...

Maximo Park-"Our Earthly Pleasures"

My favorite album so far this year. I had feared this band was a 1 album wonder, but I was pleasantly surprised to find OEP to be a nice progression, yet not a significant deviation from "A Certain Trigger"

I agree with this review of Mascis and the record. I think it harkens back to their strongest period, Where You Been/Without a Sound time period. Mascis sure has some beautiful guitar playing. I strongly recommend seeing them live if you never have. I saw them at the beginning of June at the Blind Pig... overwhelmingly awesome.

I'm listening to "The Search" by Son Volt.

The White Stripes - "Conquest"....from Icky Thump. This song is freaking awesome!

The whole record is awesome. I love the title track too.

I finally heard this record and I really like it. My favorites so far:

You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do What You're Told)

Icky Thump

Conquest

A Martyr For My Love For You

The Stripes might be the most consistently excellent band around. I don't think this is their best record -- I'd put it behind White Blood Cells and Get Behind Me Satan -- but it's great.

Era Vulgaris by Queens of the Stone Age. This album is really very good! I'm going to make a bold statement and say the songs are better than those on Songs for the Deaf.

I actually saw them in Ann Arbor a couple weeks ago. They were awesome!
