1:00 pm eastern (or, noon in God's time, the central time zone)

Line: 49ers -7

predicting the first week of the season is especially hard cause we havent seen anyone play yet.

silly predictions that will inevitably be wrong:

The Lions play a lot of two tight end sets because Sewell cant block the 49ers pass rush.

The Lions run the ball a ton...and it doesnt work well.

Goff ends up throwing a ton and puts up decent numbers late in the game as the lions make a late push.

Hockenson is held out of the end zone, but Swift scores a TD on a pass reception.

The Lions defensive line looks good and puts some pressure on jimmy g.

Kittle lights up the Lions linebackers.

okudah gets a pick.

Lions are competitive and score a late td to make it look closer than it actually was.

They play a good game overall and actually win...setting the NFL on it's head for what to make of the Lions this year.

I love the optimism for the first game of the year...you can usually have some hope for that first game because like you said we have not seen anyone play yet.

Hockenson will have 2 TD's

Goff has a plus 90 QBR

There will be a safety in the game

Unfortunately I see this game completely dominated by the SF defense.   OL is overwhelmed and Goff and the running game can’t do much.   Typical Lions penalties hinder on both side of the ball even with the new regime.    The only TD comes late in a blowout.

Just saw on Twitter that Decker is going to be out, I didn't see any reason why though(covid maybe?). Not sure if Sewell is going to slide over to lt or if a backup is going to take his place but either way it's going to be a nightmare matchup with Bosa. I have a feeling Goff is going to be running for his life.

I read a finger/hand injury with Decker.

I'm kind of at the point of just starting at Sewell at LT and moving Decker to RT. Maybe next season but Sewell's future is LT so lets just get it over with now.

I was thinking next year also but...

Decker's injury may be an injury of convenience and Wally Pipp, errr, Decker, will just need to move to RT to make room for this hot rookie...

not good

It was a home invasion and he was the one being robbed, that's why he isn't under investigation.

Decker might be out with a finger injury.     I have never heard of an offensive lineman missing a regular season game over a finger injury.   Somethin' don't smell right here.

San Francisco 34, Detroit 13.       I would be more for SF, but they will get an early lead and just run it down the Lions throat.

Not worried about Sewell, regardless of where he plays.  He missed a full season last year and then jumped into the highest level of the sport...........it's going to take a little time.

OL out with a finger injury?  Give me a break.  I wish the lions would trade decker.

This might be a good thing.  Get Sewell on the left side, let decker nurse his booboo for a couple weeks and come back as an RT and then trade him.

Haven't they been putting those 'club' cast wraps on linemen's injured hands for years?

They're now saying that Decker hasn't been ruled out officially so there's a chance he may still play. Looking at the early season schedule and we need to have our offensive line in order to have any chance of winning. After this one we got the two Smith's on the edges in GB, then the Ravens who always have a premier pass rush followed by Khalil Mack and the Bears.

Decker has been ruled out. He injured his finger in a pass pro drill. Campbell said he will be need surgery.

Damn that sucks. I think the worst part of it is that now management may not get an accurate read on Goff. If the o line is a mess coupled with the mess at WR if he struggles it could be easy to blame the situation.

Everyone loved the Sewell pick.  OL was championed as being one of the best in the league.  Fast forward a couple of months, Decker breaks a nail, and now everyone is saying the OL is a mess because the drafted tackle can’t actually play.   Drafting a tackle was still such a big mistake, should have never happened.  Having another weapon on offense would be nice.

Broken finger?   Surgery needed?    Hmmmmm.    How many lineman play with smashed fingers?      This just doesn't feel legit to me.

By the way, I watched a game last night with a defensive lineman who blew off a couple fingers and he managed to play.  Of course his team is a Super Bowl Champion and we are the Lions.

He hasn't played a real game in almost 2 years and is going against one of the top 5 pass rushers in the league that's why people are concerned. If we drafted a qb and he was playing we'd all be concerned about him too.

especially if that qb was playing with whomever the lions were lining up at ot...

tackles take time to develop.  its not like he's a running back and can walk out and be great.  sewell has time.

and if youre going to use the tried and true method of trying to tie your window of competing to your qb's rookie contract, then the lions are two years away from drafting a qb cause this team has very little top talent on it.

Yup, the last part is the biggest reason why I didn't want one. That and it's hard to properly evaluate a young qb when they are around trash.

Take Sam Darnold for example, he was surrounded by trash and looked like crap cause of it. Is he crap? Perhaps but he also may end up turning out to be good for Carolina now that he has some help.
