I love it, I was thinking it would take something like 3/40 to get him, so to get him for 2/15 is a major steal in my eyes.  I wouldn't be surprised if he opts out after next year but even so just to have him for one more year buys us a little time to find our hopefully long term solution at 2nd base.

2/15. Good deal.

Really?  Wow, that’s interesting.  He recently signed on with Boras who doesn’t typically do extensions during the season.

2 seasons seems perfect.  The cost seems a bargain considering what he’s done this season and last.

Wait, is it April 1?  Are you messing with us?

move him to 2B where he belongs

Definitely agree with this, but, it looks like a great move.  I thought he would be a free agent for sure once he hired Boras.  It is a reasonable contract too.

I was pretty confident that this was going to happen mostly because the entire thing was telegraphed.

But its big that they got it done before the season ended. It's one less thing to worry going into this offseason, particularly if they are looking to be active again

Avila sort of telegraphed this the other day. I just looked at W. Castro's monthly splits. One month at 250 and 4 at 200 or below. He was not going to be the answer and Paredes has enough positional flexibility that if he ever does stay healthy and hit at  the same time, they can find him playing time. If Clemens  replaces H. Castro next season it could be the end of the Castro era in Detroit. Muerte a la revolución

I missed it, too.

I just hope Ilitch doesn’t turn around and say, good deal, we’re done for next season.

Candy to 1st base when Torkelson is ready? And sign a SS. Maybe a #3 or #4 SP? And we have about 7 outfielders to choose from.

I think it makes more sense to put Torkelson at first and leave Candelario at third since those seem to be their best positions.  I am not sure whether they are committed to Torkelson at third or whether they are just leaving him on the high end of the positional spectrum until they need to move him as is done with many prospects.

Cody Stavenhagen, I believe it was,  asked Al before the deadline about a Schoop extension, and he responded with a non answer that included something to the effect of "that's an interesting question".

Between that and Jonathan Schoop's comments about really liking Detroit, it seemed inevitable to me. The only surprise is that it happened before the end of the season

To me the only downside is the player option after next year and even that isn't that big of deal. It would've just been nice if it wasn't there cause if for say next deadline somebody emerges from our system to make Schoop expendable there would be more of a demand for him if he had a year and a half left vs. just being a rental.

I'm surprised it happened before the season ended but, yeah, it'd been telegraphed strongly enough.

From a few interviews and comments I've seen from schoop it seems very important to him to be comfortable with the people and environment around him. He seems to have found that, a veteran role for himself and playing time in detroit.

they asked him about it in that last interview and he sort of went into a Cat that ate the Canary expression. The words said "we'll see" but the smile was pretty big.
