I'm not sure if this was posted or not.

And then I wasn't sure if this belonged in the Vegas thread for Del to consider tossing a few nickels on the 2021 Summer League title.

The Pistons will field an abundance of high-level talent on their 2021 Summer League team this August, details Keith Langlois of Pistons.com.

Detroit expects to have its draft selections from the 2019-2021 seasons on the Summer League roster. That will include current 2020/21 rookies Killian Hayes, Isaiah Stewart, Saddiq Bey, Saben Lee, and Deividas Sirvydis, plus second-year players Sekou Doumbouya and Tyler Cook. The Pistons are currently slated to have a high first-round pick, as well as three second-rounders, in the 2021 draft.

“It’s going to be a lot of blood, sweat and tears,” head coach Dwayne Casey said of the upcoming summer session in Las Vegas. “We’ve got to go to work. They’re going to be here working. If they’re going to have a Pistons uniform on, they’re going to work this summer.”

That 3pt percentage jump is just crazy.  Too many people are going to use that to point out how [insert favorite player] can just become a great 3pt shooter overnight. Anyone want to give Stanley Johnson another shot now?

Why? He clearly struggled mightily with making the jump to the NBA and relating to players. Why would we want him to be the Senior Advisor of Player Development? (whatever that is).  Is this just a homer move?

Maybe this ends up being a better role for him than NBA coach?  My guess is working with younger guys that are going through a player development program are closer to college players than NBA veterans / lottery picks.

because he's obviously very good at teaching basketball to people who want to learn, but not good at kissing asses of spoiled brat millionaires.

Teaching high school kids how to fit into a college system is one thing.  Teaching former college players how to develop into NBA players is another thing.

Seems like you'd want someone who understands the path they're on and where that path leads. He's clearly shown that he has no connection to NBA players and is incapable of understanding or relating to the end point in that journey. Not sure how someone like that becomes a person who's qualified to be an advisor in developing players to walk that path.

i think youre overreacting to what happened in cleveland and overstating his role in detroit.  being able to spot talent and then being able to see what that talent needs to do to succeed are good skills to have.  he obviously has them.

he's not going to be the head coach.  he's not even going to be an assistant coach.  he's not going to be in a position where a bunch of disgruntled players can use him as a scapegoat for their own failures.  its not like the cleveland situation.

my only question on beilein is "who hired him?"  is this a gores hire or a weaver hire?

if gores hired him because someone told gores beilein is smart, i hope it doesnt undercut casey or weaver or anyone else.

You addressed the root of my concerns with your second post.  This smells like a Gores hire for a homer PR move.

i am worried about that too.  i dont trust gores to do anything right.

according to james edwards, it was casey's idea and he was pushing for beilein to be in this role.  he wont be on the bench or traveling much with the team.  more behind the scenes and helping develop shooting.  not a gores thing.

For the Michigan fans.  Juwan is going to be linked to every open NBA job this summer.

boston.

i'd be sad if juwan left but it would be unsurprising.  if anything, it would be surprising if he didnt leave.
