Hopefully Denver still has something to play for on Friday.  Looks like both DEN and LAC play tomorrow and Friday.  The LAC game starts 1 hour later than this one, so luckily DEN won't know the outcome of that game until after ours is over.

Just need Denver to beat Minnesota tomorrow and the game will have meaning. The question for Denver is, is it worth it to play their full lineup on the 2nd night of a back to back against one of the worst teams in the league for the outside of chance of winning the 3rd seed? I doubt it, I expect at least a few of their regulars to sit out.

How ties are dealt with in the lottery.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_draft_lottery

Quote

In the event that teams finish with the same record, each tied team receives the average of the total number of combinations for the positions that they occupy. Should the average number not be an integer, a coin flip is then used to determine which team or teams receive the extra combination. The result of the coin flip is also used to determine who receives the earlier pick in the event that neither of the tied teams wins one of the first four picks via the lottery.

Cavaliers with a big win tonight.   Now as long as we don't win our last 2 the worst we can finish is 4th.

another great coaching job by the genius that is brad stevens.

Its not completely etched in stone, but it looks like Nuggets vs Mavericks and Clippers vs Trailblazers in round one.  I guess it comes down to does Denver see more value in trying to go against Lillard over getting a bit of rest and going against Doncic?  Can they worry about seeding after round one?

Denver has this road game tonight in Detroit and then a Sunday night finale in Portland.

Looking to Miami, I think they have probably something to play for on Sunday, at least as it stands now.

Milwaukee or Atlanta/New York in round one?  The choice seems easy, try to win, try to move up to 5th rather than rest and risk staying at 6th.

I think it was mentioned before that Miami vs Detroit is a make up game?  It looks like Sunday is a full slate of games for the NBA.  They can't all be make up games, can they?  Seems highly improbable.

Sunday is a full 15 games.  I find it difficult to believe that, even with all of the postponements this season, it just worked out well that all 30 teams had a make up game against a different opponent than anyone else to line up like it does on Sunday.  But I suppose its likely that some nonpostponed games were moved to Sunday to make up games prior to Sunday?

Whatever, just lose tonight and Sunday.

I think the value of them jumping the Clippers is home court just in case they meet in the Western Finals.

With that said, I'd be pleasantly shocked if Jokic plays tonight. Porter Jr. sat out last night for rest so good news is that he'll probably play tonight I'd imagine.

Miami will almost certainly have something to play for on Sunday. Getting that 5 spot is huge to avoid Milwaukee and of course, home court in the 1st round up for grabs with the 4 spot so there should be plenty of incentive for them to win on Sunday.

Lose tonight and the Pistons are guaranteed a tiebreaker for 2-4 at worst so go to work boys, suck like you've never sucked before.

Just looking at the odds of each selection, if we stay at 2 we have an 80% chance of getting a top 5 pick,  if we are at 3 that drops to just 66% and just 56% at 4 so yeah its even a bigger deal than I originally thought to finish 2nd.

It's interesting because the odds of getting a top 4 pick 1-4 are almost even, 52% at 2 compared to 50% at 4.

The important aspect, as you mentioned of staying at 2 as opposed to 4 is staying in the top 5. 80% at 2 compared to 56% at 4. Plus that you can only drop to 6 from 2 compared  to 8 from 4.

BTW, looks like Jokic is playing tonight to my surprise.

Triple double.  O rating of 157.  D rating of 95.  I think they tossed him out there just to avoid having him regress in his conditioning.
