Lose 11-7 and it was one of the better games they played in a while. How does Al Avila still have a job? I would have fired him with Ausmus. What's it take to get fired around here?

The owners have to start caring enough or at least appear to.

And I hate when he says "base knock". It sounds stupid.

That's the kind of thing that Ernie Harwell could have said and it would have been OK.  Not Shep though.  Some people have it and some don't.   Of course, Harwell would never say that the bases are drunk.

The District Detroit - in baseball form.    The Pistons were like this too, just not as bad, then they hired Troy Weaver and he is taking a tear it down and throw the **** against the wall until something sticks approach.

New ownership? That's my guess.

It's also possible Avila gets kicked upstairs and Littlefield or Chadd replaces him as GM.

its going to be an awfully frustrating year for you if you think avila is going to get fired based upon the tigers' results this year.

I guess I'm more optimistic about him possibly getting fired soon than others on here.  They may find a new role for him just cause he's been with the organization so long but I could see them relieving him of any baseball decisions if things don't start getting better.  I guess I have no reason to think this other than blind hope and the fact that it's hard for me to imagine any owner putting up with this product even Chris.   **** I bought into the Avila and the rebuild but I reached my breaking point this season perhaps Chris will do the same.  I like to think he will.

The Tigers have now struck out 319 times in 30 games this year.  Joe Dimaggio struck out 369 times in his 1800 game career.   They should be passing him by the end of the week.

Shep stole the bases are drunk from Morris. Jack was saying it last week or the week before.

meh.  i guess if i lived in toledo i wouldnt have anything better to do than watch this horrible baseball team...:)

Actually I got so angry about the start of the Tiger game, that I listened to the Pistons game on the way to getting my kid from dance.  So there you go, I had some options yesterday.  Gosh, I should'of tuned into the Mud Hen game.

/Why does Shep say the bases are "drunk" when they are loaded?  That sounds so stupid to me, i must be missing the meaning he has with that.

It sounds stupid but:

  • You watch this team day in and day out and think about how many stupid thoughts come to your head and
  • He's probably only had the opportunity to say it a handful of times this season.

So it's Torkelson who hasn't hit crap since signing the contract? Huh.

You can see how it sounded like Miggy to me.

I thought we were talking about Victor Martinez.

He did say that the catcher was beating his meat once.

The only time the bases were ever drunk with Jack Morris is when Sparky put him in as a pinch-runner.

March 20 piece-
Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Headed to minor-league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Torkelson was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday.

Torkelson saw plenty of playing time this spring while working with the major-league coaching staff but went just 1-for-20 with one run, three walks and 12 strikeouts during Grapefruit League games. The Tigers' top prospect will now join the team's minor-league camp before he likely begins the season at High-A West Michigan.

Nope, Ernie would say the "Tigers are kicking up their heels" during a rally. God, I miss him.
