C-MO is a Schill

Recommended Posts

He cannot say anything bad about the Tigers hitters.  Today, he slurps a couple of semi hard hit ball outs, and absolutely praises Kluber (or, insert any other pitcher).

It is so out of reality it is comical.

C-Mo just spent 90 seconds slurping over a bloop/flare single for Candy today.  How about focusing on the other 29 plate appearances that produced 1 other single and a lone walk, with a ton of easy outs and K's?

I mean, for real, a single and they have him talk about it for almost 2 minutes?

I think we have a significant conflict?  What the organization wants, and what the fans want, are two different things. And the talking heads are stranded in no-mans land, in between.  It has irked me the last few years reading Jason Beck's  sparkle and sunshine as well.

If they told the matter of fact truth, they would be unemployed.

Listen to Dan and Jim on the radio...they at least passive aggressively and honestly voice disgust during/after games.  They dont outright bash the team, but they def dont blow rainbows up the fanbases collective asses with mental gymnatics, polyana positive bull****....a **** is a ****, and Dan and Jim basically stop just short of actually saying it.

I think the first 2.. I'll give them 3 seasons get a pass but starting before last season.. and the whole Covid thing disrupted that a lot should have started to get some results for rebuilding. I mean, at least 2 or 4 youngsters that we can see playing for a contender down the road. Mize has been a bit of a dissapointment but still incomplete. How can they be at seemingly ground zero 5 years from the start of the fire sale/salary purge.

Jim has traded in "triple buggywhip" for "oh boy" and "aye aye aye" this season lol

Well, we've really got a good head start tanking this season, other teams will be hard pressed to catch us.

Hopefully there is one heII of a draft choice lurking in the shadows.

It's not really fair to blame the TV team. They are just doing exactly what they are paid to do. The rest of Detroit sports media could be beating the negative drums, but they have mostly written off baseball and just don't pay much attention to it. All you have are the beat writers, and they have to work with the guys on the team so they know which side their bread is buttered on as well. Back in the day you had relatively high power sports columnists whose columns could pressure the teams - Joe Falls, Pete Waldmeyer, etc., who didn't depend on them for their livelihood, but those days are gone. Local papers won't pay people for that any more. Most of the sports opinion/editorial stuff comes from the national media like ESPN, MLB.com and they don't pay attention to the Tigers either.

So they basically get a pass, at least media wise. They are too irrelevant to anyone who could make much noise to bother.

There has been a significant "Amen" corner on MTS as well.  I understand generally that "management knows better" than fans do, of course, but what if management's basic premise is biased against winning because they can turn a profit consistently while losing, as long as they keep the payroll the bottom of the league?

The announcers are in a no-win situation.  Some fans want to hear the truth, but a significant portion of fans don't want to hear Debbie Downers, and as evidenced by some on MTS for the last 5 years, even some really smart fans will drink the Kool Aid for a long time.

I even see some people here who are critical of management right now criticizing Gibby because he seems to come close to calling players out.

I appreciate Dan and Jim because they are saying truthful things in a professional and reasonable way, and relying on the HUGE good will they have built up (esp. Dan IMO) over the years to give them the space to make reasonable observations.

Monroe still thinks of himself as a player and has relationships with guys in the clubhouse, so there’s no way he’s going to do anything but praise the boys while he’s on the air, if for no other reason than he needs to protect those relationships. One clue as to whether this is true is if he uses clubhouse nicknames on the air to refer to the players.

But, also, it serves the Tigers’ business interest for the broadcasters they employ to praise the product while on the air and not drive viewers away by slamming it. That’s Baseball Broadcasting 101.

The TV guys are part of the selling of the product.  They know that being negative all the time will just make people turn the channel.  Nobody wants to be depressed especially now when they have their remote and access to all kinds of other programming at their fingertip.  A TV viewer is more at risk of changing the channel.  They have to play to that.  It's their job.

For radio they know that it's a more dedicated audience member, they might be driving somewhere or doing something else while listening so they can be more frank.

The Tigers are two seasons away from 100 wins.

I mean, when combining both seasons.

Time for a fan revolt. Organized online social media movement. Every final score twitter post should be flooded with thousands of replies, urging Chris to sell the team. Can't go on like this.

The only revolt that will work is if people stop buying the product

Now that Bally's has taken over the TV coverage, my local cable provider carries only about half the games, despite the programming guide claiming to carry most games. So, it appears we are on our way to that. They have been running tennis, and full contact fighting matches in place of the games.

The Tigers have been so horrible, it's hardly worth a phone call to find why they are off schedule, They's probably laugh and say "is this a prank call?"
