It doesn't mean he shouldn't.

Everyone agrees he should, but if Al Avila is working on a actual contract and not at will, I highly doubt an owner who won’t even pay minimum money for an actual first baseman would pay two general managers simultaneously.

Unless he replaces Avila with one of the Davids already on the payroll. You up for that?

Gee, thanks for the reality check that Chris I is dealing with a bunch of grasping family members who don't want to have to work for a living to support their legal retainers for when they crash their cars into a school of children because they were drunk and high.

I thought that there may have been a chance that he would be canned when we were off to that historically bad start but now that we're just merely bad instead of historically bad I think he is safe for the time being.

I’m loving the fact that Avila’s incompetence is beginning to get the attention it deserves in the press. It’s still on Illitch to act. Like others, I regret the Tigers decided to get on a winning streak when they did, a Catch 22 deal. With this current streak nothing will happen to address the Avila situation anytime soon.

The CBS piece was totally spot on.

No chess.  ...just another opinion or two

Of course considering how wrong the national press usually is about Detroit in general I'm not sure we shouldn't view stuff like this as likely to mean the opposite is true as meaningful critique.

I don't think the national analysts are usually wrong.  Fans just get defensive when they say something negative.  For example, Keith Law always says our young players are not good and everyone protests, but he usually turns out to be right.  Of course, he says the same about other teams!

The thing I noticed from the piece is the lack of actual attributable quotes.

Makes me less inclined to put much stock in it.

last night I viewed the box scores of all of our minor league teams/games. It was not optimistic. It seems all statistics were poor to bad except Greene and maybe a couple others. Dingler did not play. The same is true on the major league level. Now the year is still young..ish..and much can change but yes I am very bummed and a major change needs to happen to fix things.

Disagree somewhat. For instance, it's been my experience that when you get a Detroit game on national media the analysts often as not do not have any kind of accurate understanding of the Detroit players they are talking about and are just falling back on conventional stock in trade stuff for their comments. Law is a bit of a different case - looking at all prospects is what he does so it does not matter (or more specifically 'not not matter') to him that they may associated with Detroit.

The minor league season just started like a week ago.

I think she's a glorified blogger.  She doesn't get quotes.

The traditional national baseball media is mostly wrong  about everything.  I believe MacLennan is more of an internet analyst which means she doesn't get quotes, but she also doesn't have the same kind click bait agenda as the traditional media.  I don't really know if she's good or not.  She gets re-tweeted by a lot of people I follow, so I started following recently.
