It hurts my heart to see Cabrera and how much of a shadow of himself that he is.

Dan Dickerson says this is the worst stretch for a Tiger team in the last 40 years.  He should know.

I think the ‘75 team had a 17 game losing streak, sure they didn’t hit much during that. But other than that, I can’t imagine a worse stretch in 100 years.

It was 19 in a row.  That team didn't start out so bad.  They were 23-24 in the middle of June.  Then they went 34-78 the rest of the way.

Cabrera is hitless with 9 strikeouts in his last 14 at-bats.

He's just 3-for-24 with 13 strikeouts since coming off the IL on April 25.

so...they don’t have any minor leaguers available who can help until the Toledo season opens for a few weeks. But yeah this is bad.

Cabrera hit that epic bomb right in the middle of this stretch.  Really hoped that was the start of something good.

I wouldn’t mind the losing if I could see the vision for the team to be decent in the next few years and for the prospects to all hit at the same time. As we have seen, mize and skubal might take a few years to even be mid level starters.  You can’t field such non competitive teams for multiple years and ask fans to respect your credibility as a team builder. You’re out of time Al.

Hey you guys if you get CBC television, there is a track meet on right now and Dafne Schippers is going to run in the 4 by 100 relay.  Don't miss it.

I think they're going to straighten themselves out by mid-season (July-ish?).

Not that they'll be aces or anything, but that improvements in control (Mize) and spin rates (Skubal) will make them more effective.

I'd like to see them really sharp by the end of the year and make a big leap next year...

I'd also like to see Manning up in July and work his way through the league and make a leap in effectiveness next year as well...

Mize seems closer to figuring it out, his last start was pretty decent all things considered.

Skubal? Harder to say that he should be in big leagues at this point.

Ah, young pitching.  Last season Skubal looked more advanced than Mize.

With Mize it's pretty simple - if he locates well he's very good. If he doesn't and has to pitch from behind, he either walks too many or his stuff is hittable enough that he gets in trouble. There is really nothing left for him to learn - he has all the throws. He either develops the ability to sustain the level of command that he shows some of the time all of time, or not. I don't see a reason not to keep him in Det until he reaches whatever limits they have in mind for him. Put him against lesser competition  it will probably be too easy and he will loose the pressure to get to where he needs to.

I don't know what has happened to Skubal. I had a theory that they are trying to shorten his delivery because I think his leg kick looks lower this season and I wonder if that is what is costing him the quality of his FB, but it's not like I've put any video on A/B to try to prove it. Or he is just going through some arm funk. I think conversely to Mize, If he is trying to tweak his mechanics sending him down where he is still good enough to stay in games without getting beat up by MLB hitters while he's working on stuff might be more productive for him.

I agree with all of this. Skubal's pitch release is also all out of whack. With Toledo starting in a few days, I think he should be sent down. Skubal also learned a new pitch this offseason with his splitter and I'm not sure if that screwed up things with his FB in some way.

yes - great point. I had forgotten that. I've read in other places that for some guys using the split can mess up their fastball grip.
