I have never, EVER felt this embarrassed and hopeless as a Tiger fan.  Not in '89.  Not in the latter half of the 90's with Randy Smith and Buddy Bell.  Not in 2003 when they lost a ton.

And another error.

C'mon, ownership, do SOMETHING.

This picture is almost haunting at this point.

it's depressing that they've managed to screw up Skubal. I'm not watching but I assume his velo is still down? Probably has had a dead arm since ST and could stand a total shut down for turn or so. Otherwise Mr. Fetter is managing to fail his first big test.

They really thought they could use Andrew Jay Hinch as a meat shield for another 105 loss season. They could blame player development setbacks on the pandemic and the fans would forgive them....it's just a serious miscalculation on how assuming fans thinking that this owner and gm are credible and deserve the benefit of the doubt.

A happy memory of C-Mo hitting a game-winning HR against the Yankees at the old Yankee Stadium in 2006 during the regular season.  I think it was in late July....correction, August 30th:

I was on a date night with my wife...we pulled into the movie parking lot at the place just off the US 23/I 94 interchange....I turned on the radio in time to hear that, and had a very, very happy time watching whatever movie it was after that.

2003 is the closest, but I am young. But at least in 2003, they had already pushed the button on the GM that had brought that situation on the franchise.

This franchise is currently in a lot worse shape. That's saying something

We are old and Mike's unscheduled spending with Maggs and Pudge were the engine of the rebuild. They had credible guys on the roster who gave the team credibility...hit on a few draft picks, have a few development wins, and you have an excellent teams.

If you don't make smart trades or sign free agents, you are relying on a 70% hit rate in player development. That's unrealistic.

Exactly....it was a fascinating experience losing all of those games....I felt very strongly throughout the season that Mike I and DD were going to do something big.

I didn't like the Weaver trade at first, but then they signed Pudge and it felt like we were moving in the right direction.

the talent level on this team, at Toledo, at Erie is truly horrific.

they have no idea how to identify or develop baseball players.

but they are good at turning a profit.

It would be one thing if this team was playing alot of guys who will be on the roster when/if they ever get back into contention again, but instead they have a couple of low level free agents (Mazara, Schoop, Castro, and Grossman), and then an aged vet and a bunch of guys who would not be on any other roster in MLB (okay, Candelario and Goodrum would be role players maybe on a couple of teams).

If you look ahead another 2-3 years, how many current guys on the roster will be on the team if they are a better team (no guarantee of that)

Mize should be there.

Maybe one of Boyd, Turnbull, Skubal.

Maybe Willi Castro.

I suppose maybe possibly Soto or Cisnero?  Relievers can hang around.  EDIT: sorry, I forgot that Cisnero was 32.

If you are talking about someone we can project in 2023 or 2024 to be a likely plus player, the ONLY guy you can say that about is Mize.

It's unbelievable.

and the saddest thing of all is that if that if they chuck the whole front office tomorrow and start over, there is still precious little chance they can any better at any point this season than they are now.

I dunno, the psychological impact of kicking dirt on Avila and bringing in Dave Dombrowski Jr. will be massive.

Boyd and Turnbull are solid MLB pitchers, but they seem like bait to me.

If they can fix Skubal, Mize and Skubal. I dont see much else on the roster that'll be around. Maybe Soto, Garcia and Cisnero, but it's hard to say with relievers
