From the story:

The Detroit Tigers placed slugger Miguel Cabrera on the 10-day injured list with a left biceps strain Sunday morning.

It wasn’t immediately clear how he suffered the injury.

Are there certain things he happens to be ambidextrous at? 😏

How could this happen when he was in the best shape of his life?

They're not who we thought they were.  They're worse.

In pitching, they are  next-to-last in the Majors in Team ERA, and are tied for the worst in Home Runs Allowed Per Game.

And the offense sucks, too.

JT Realmuto just stole 3B.  He’s off to a torrid .346/.393/.538 start.  Signed for 4/$100M, which was scoffed at by some.

But, hey, at least the Tigers have Wilson Ramos.

Well... to be fair:

Ramos is slashing .273/ .360/ .864 with 4 HR's already.

He's off to a torrid start.

And he's a bargain.

Which do you think is more likely to be sustained?

Another question is which one is better at handling a young pitching staff. I don't know the answer to that.

Just to be clear about this... I could care less about Realmuto or sustainability. I think it would have been completely asinine to sign him. But that's just me/ my opinion.

But to answer the question: They are both on the wrong side of 30... they both play catcher, which is subject to injury and quick degradation more than any other position player... Ramos has a career .760 OPS and Realmuto a career .785 OPS...

Hmmm... Again, I think my answer is: Don't care.

Actually, now that I've read you list of prospects, neither should be necessary with Jake Rogers in the organization.

Happy 26th birthday on Sunday, Jake.

Bull****.  You called out Rogers as a prospect and you’re skipping over him with Dingler as the next catcher?

However, I am intrigued by Dingler.  I’m actually intrigued by the whole 2020 draft class.

What is the point in hanging on to Avila and Leyland?? Or, how about a new owner? What a joke. Baseball: long and arduous. Especially following a crap team.

Just because I called out Rogers doesn't mean I am calling him a star or even a starter. I also called out Dingler for that matter.

The reason I called out Rogers is I believe he will be the backup catcher on our championship team. He has MLB-level defensive chops (per scouts... but we know he struggled a bit last year with that in his cup of tea), has some power, but not much of a hit tool to get to that power.

So he hits .200-.220 and pops 10-12 HR's and is good with the pitchers. That's still a useful player in MLB.

You haven't asked yourself why they've given him so little chance yet? he's 26 in a few days.

I think they're still working on him to improve his hit tool. Before they even give him a chance to push Greiner. So it's better to work on that steadily in AAA than sporadically in MLB.

Which is saying quite a bit about him. I'm not putting much stock in him... I still think he can make it to MLB as a defensive backup, occasional power and the bare minimum of hitting (.220-ish...? Ausmus-light?). But...

His chances are dwindling. I get that.

I'd like to see this championship roster.

I don't think the Tigers like Rogers that much.

they thought his problem was with the leg kick. He stopped using it but only got worse so that pretty much left them (and him) nowhere.

So, all of their prospects are going to be successful and they are going to add Mariano Rivera, Willie Hernandez and an outfielder who hits 45 homers.  That works for me.

Permission to bookmark and revisit in the 2023 playoffs?  Let's have a little fun, I'll take Realmuto as a 12.0 WAR catcher over the life of his current 4 year contract.

2023 is Cabrera's last guaranteed season.  I don't know if the Tigers are on the hook for 2024 & 2025 if he is released before then.  If he's still playing, its going to be in Detroit, and it isn't going to involve a fielder's mitt.  Does he slot in as DH in the above?  In that case, do you just go with a platoon of Mazara/Cameron in LF?

Joe Jimenez will be arbitration eligible in 2023.  If you want Guillermo Hernandez 2.0, he could do it.  I don't know if he do that left handed, but he's got time to learn.

Absolutely bookmark.

But since I only added (3) high-$ FA's, you can only add two more to your Realmuto. And remember, you can't use Realmuto's WAR this season or next season, you have to use his 2023 WAR, where he only gets to a 1.6

I'm releasing Cabrera before the 2023 season. Ilitch gave me permission.

That leaves Mazaro as DH and part-time OF'er spotting in wherever needed. Cameron is the main backup OF'er as he covers all 3 spots defensively... still working on his bat though... wish he was his dad...

I probably should give Derek Hill a chance to claim Cameron's spot... But I'll leave as-is for now.

And Jimenez ain't Willie. Don't even try that horse****...

Oh, don’t misunderstand.  I’m only saying Realmuto will have a 12.0 WAR run over his current 4 year contract.  It has nothing to do with the Tigers.

You’re on the hook for a title in 2023 with the roster you provided above.
