I've never heard any legitimate baseball person advocate for taking first pitch strikes, except in very specific circumstances.

TBF, Ted Williams advocated taking the 1st pitch you saw, which if I understand it correctly referred to the 1st pitch you saw *in the game*, which is fine for setting your timing. Over the years I've heard people quote him more than once to have said look at the first pitch in each at bat which I'm not sure is what he really said.

I liked McCosky.  I live in Florida so I am not familiar with him. What’s the general consensus?

Blah.

I've heard some say don't swing at the borderline, pitchers pitch early in the count, but that's about as far as it's gone. Never to let a good strike go by, unless you are trying to buy recovery for your pitcher or some such.

His nickname on this board is "Hackosky".  I don't read any of the Detroit papers now, because they are behind a paywall and I don't think it's worth the money.   I don't care about the opinions of sports writers.  They don't know more than anyone else.  They are useful in that they have access to players, so they can give us quotes.  The good quotes eventually get to us though, so I don't pay for them.

My wife is an old school newspaper addict so we have a digital to both the News and Freep, but TBH, if you follow Seidel and McCosky on twitter most of their raw reporting is available there. What you do get with the Freep this year is a LOT of player and Hinch video - most of which is just sports boilerplate but yields a nugget once in a while.

Is that true? I think Grossman’s per year is slightly more than Tram’s adjusted for inflation.
