Excellent news! Okwara was our best defensive player, our best pass rusher, and is still only 25. Really excited to have him back.

What an off-season thus far! A brand new front office, two draft gurus added into the fold to run the show in Holmes and Dorsey, Stafford traded for multiple 1st round picks, Romeo Okwara brought back without a franchise tag. I've never enjoyed the Lions this much in my life and we haven't even hit the draft yet.

you've tempted the fate of the football gods.  this ensures that the lions will now draft kyle pitts.

Haha! This off-season really feels different. It feels like they have smart, not arrogant people, putting a clear plan in place. I'd trust Holmes taking Pitts versus Mayhew taking Pettigrew or Ebron or Quinn taking Hock. As I've said previously, I don't want Pitts and would not draft the guy. If he runs a 4.5 or quicker and they commit to playing him on the outside, I'm willing to get on board with the idea.

I preferred signing Okwara long term over Golladay so this is good. I thought the number was a tad high taking the lowered cap into account but a good bet to get a young emerging pass rusher with room for more growth locked up. Doesn't effect the comp pick either so this was preferable to signing a free agent pass rusher off the market.

So we are going to start collecting Rams discards and Saints TEs?  Maybe we can convince the Saints to draft Pitts then we can trade with them for him.

Johnson is a coveted safety, not exactly a "discard". With that said, I'd rather the Lions not spend big in free agency so I hope he signs elsewhere.

shaq barrett got 4 years 72 million, so okwara doesnt seem like an overpay even in the covid market.

of course, barrett still got less than what we paid to get trey flowers, but that's another bob quinn contract so...

How many Bob Quinn draft picks will be on this roster by the time next season starts?

As few as possible it appears.  This team will be unrecognizable next season, which is a good thing.

I love the non aggressive approach they are taking this off-season. There is no reason this team should even attempt to blow all its cap space just to try and be remotely competitive next year. With 2 1sts in next years draft we should be ensuring that our 1st round pick is as high as possible. I feel confident now that we'll be well positioned to be 3-13, 4-12 and go into next off-season with a mountain of cap space, a top 5 pick, and be ready to fully rebuild and compete in the coming years.

Yeah I agree.  Do need to sign some one though.  Couple positions have no players.

Probably won't be anybody of consequence. Most of their available cap space will go towards signing draft picks so I'm guessing that they'll sign a DT and sit back and collect compensatory picks. I think they actually might be in line for comp picks from the Davis and Agnew signings shockingly enough.

I imagine the decision to release a guy and subsequent exit interviews go something like this.

Brad Holmes: Hey John, can you pass me the roster list.

John Dorsey: Sure Brad. Just like you asked for, all these ******* guys with a BQ initial next to their name were **** and signed by Bob Quinn.

Holmes: Can you call Chase Daniel in here please and thank you!

Dorsey: Sure!

Holmes: Hey Chase, we wanted to let you know that the GM who signed you Bob Quinn didn't have a clue what he was doing, so unfortunately we have to release you.

Dorsey: And by no clue we mean he was ******* terrible!
