I'm totally missing the point then why you are randomly bringing up draft picks from over 20 years ago and another random one drafted in the 3rd round.

as evidence that sometimes top cb draft picks dont pan out.  it was kind of a joke.

you sort of took that and then said i didnt think we should draft a cb at 3.  i didnt say that, you inferred it.  since then, i have said - numerous times - that i thought they should have taken okudah at 3.

I'm not saying we can't draft a CB in the 1st round. I'm just asking the question does Okudah deserve to automatically sink or swim next year based on where he was drafted or if he is outplayed in camp, do one of Dunbar or Oruwariye deserve a starting spot? I'd love to think last year was all Covid killing training camp and Patricia and Co. being an abysmal staff and that Okudah will rebound with a new regime. I'd like to think the same of Tahvi too, but I don't have a good feeling on either.

tahvi is a different animal, imo.

okudah was selected where everyone thought he would be selected and tested (and played) really well in college.  tahvi was drafted waaaaaay before anyone thought, tested poorly, didnt star in college, and then sucked.  and was drafted specifically for that type of defense.

if tahvi amounts to anything in detroit, i'll be really surprised.  it would not shock me in the least if tahvi is cut in training camp.  it would surprise me if he is on the team in 2022.

Tater no one will be handed a starting position in camp from this coaching staff based on draft position.

But not for 1 second do I think Okudah will be outplayed by both Dunbar and Oruwariye. Do you?

Nor do I think Goff will be outplayed by any other QB on the team in training camp. Not based on draft position but, rather...

Ability.

Just as another example...

So Vegas thinks we're gonna go 1-15 or 2-14. Neat

So the Lions just skipping a game entirely?

Vegas is not going to put out a win total less than 4-5.  They are trying to make money.

That was my point, by setting it at 5 they are basically saying its gonna be like 1 or 2. 5 lets them get play on both sides.

Remember Vegas isn't a prediction, its what they think will get an even number on both sides of the line

This seems like a better approach than running them until they are exhausted.

Good point.

Taylor Decker not getting vaccinated.  So much for being a leader.

There are some things that transcend football, like the health and wellbeing of others. If the NFL and NFLPA agree to institute a mandate on this, you have to wonder what you do with players who still refuse to get vaccinated. Does cutting a player because they won't get vaxxed become a part of the conversation at that point?

If it was mandidated, I would imagine you would create some restricted list. Where a player goes on it and doesn't count on the salary cap, but the team retains the right in the case player comes back.

The player wouldn't get paid

The team wouldn't get hit with cutting a player like that.

Yeah as really cutting a player like that could be in the contract as well as that of not playing to their elite status.

There were rumors that the Lions were going to make a big hire following the draft to their scouting department and this may be it. Perhaps a job similar to what Holmes had with the Rams.

COACHING HOT SEAT

Sitting over a block of ice
Arthur Smith, Atlanta - They have weapons for Matty Ice
Sean MdDermott, Buffalo - He brought playoff football back to Buffalo
Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland - He made the playoffs, finally and the Brows could win it all.
Dan Campbell, Detroit - Snackin' on keeecaps.
Urban Meyer, Jacksonville - Only one way to go and that's up and he'll get at least 3 years to do it
Andy Reid, Kansas City - They'll name a street after him there.
Brandon Staley,  LA Chargers - He has a great roster and a great young QB. It's all right there
Robert Saleh - NY Jets -  Love, exciting and new, get two years before they ruin you
Brian Flores, Miami  - So much of his security depends on the QB, but he's not going anywhere for now
Bill Belichick, New England - He should walk away after this year, before it gets really bad
Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh - 3 coaches since the 70s and a new extention
Bruce Arians, Tampa Bay - Tom Brady making geniuses again
Ron Rivera, Washington - He's making the team legit

Seat is cozy and comfortable, for now
John Harbaugh, Baltimore - Makes the playoffs every year, but needs to move forward
Matt Rhule, Carolina - Still has the new car smell
Sean McVay, LA Rams - It's all there for him and the time is now.
Sean Payton, New Orleans - It'll be a Brees with a QB that can throw more than 10 yards
Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia - Odd situation all around, but nobody should ever get comfortable in Philly
Pete Carroll, Seattle - Like Belichick,  it might be time to walk away soon
Mike Vrabel, Tennessee - Good start, needs to advance

Need a fan to cool off
Kliff Kingsbury, Arizona - He needs to make the playoffs within the next two years,
Frank Reich, Indianapolis - The AFC South should be theirs right now.   He'll get one more year.
Joe Judge, New York -  Still in a rebuild, but if the GM gets whacked.....he'll get whacked too
Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco - If they are healthy they should be good, but their window is starting to close already

Sweating profusely
Zac Taylor, Cincinnati - Its a tough spot to be in - in a very tough division, maybe the hardest spot in the NFL.
Matt LaFleur, Green Bay - Rooting so hard for the Pack to fall apart.
Jon Gruden, Las Vegas - He won a Super Bowl with someone else's talent.  He's never done a notable thing other than that.  Maybe the most overrated coach in the history of the NFL.  It'll be great to have him back on Monday Night Football in a couple years.
Mike Zimmer, Minnesota - How many years do you get to be "almost" good?

Flesh is burning
Matt Nagy, Chicago - Only kept his job because he made the playoffs.
Mike McCarthy, Dallas - I am surprised he survived a brutal year last year.  A bad start and he's toast.
Vic Fangio, Denver - As much Elway's fault, but Elway ain't firing Elway

Poor Schmuck
David Culley, Houston - After Hurricane Bill he's supposed to take the rubble that's left and build something out of it.  He'll probably want to get fired in a year.  The Texans are the new Lions.
