dodds, paton, colbert, dimitroff all sound good to me.

I don't know if there's any validity to this but here you go...

Food for thought at the very least. I'm sure Colbert is using the Lions to force a raise from the Steelers but give credit to the Lions for trying.

I'd be fine with any of Colbert, Dodds or Paton. I want a GM with proven success.

His contract is up every year. He just works on a series of one year deals.

Yes. So when he signs the next one it won’t have anything to do with playing the Lions for a bigger deal.

but building long term relationships and deep respect are quite different from the ability to produce fireworks in short term relationships (ie. the interview) and do not necessary relate to one another in any number of personality types. And I would be willing to posit that few coaches show in any interview the personality they put on in the locker room or training program. You can find that out talking to his players, but he's not going to demonstrate it for you - which is my point. Do you think Matt Patricia showed the personality his players saw  to the non-Quinn members of his interview team?

I don’t think any of the interviews that Quinn ran were relevant to his decision at all. He had known since Foxboro that if he ever got his shot, he was going to hire his boy Patricia

Instead, Mrs. Ford took the nonsense advice that a lot of people on this board spout off: “The GM needs to hire his guy and ownership should get out of the way.” She should have taken those interviews a lot more seriously.

Thankfully, Sheila IS taking the interviews more seriously. Even though a lot of fans are crying that they didn’t get their shiny new GM yet.

I wasn't holding my breath for Colbert as that had pipe dream written on it to me. However, it looks like this may be a serious offer with a serious chance of happening. Maybe Colbert would take a bump up to Team President of Football Operations and someone like Dodds, Holmes, or Paton could still get the GM role. It will be interesting to see what Head Coach would get paired with Colbert given his connections are really only with Pittsburgh.

Painfully slow.   Not even interviewing until Friday?  They won’t make any decisions until next week at this pace.

Ok, if they steel Colbert I’ll shut up and just let it all happen. That would be significantly awesome.

its certainly not nonsense.  they hired him to run the organization.  he should hire who he thinks is the best coach.

he was just wrong, like he was about a lot of things.  you think martha knew better?  she had to ask ernie accorsi because she knew she didnt know any better.

It does seem like the GM search is moving about a week or so ahead of the HC search.

Again, if they do get Colbert, who does he want has his Head Coach? With someone as seasoned and successful as Colbert has been you almost certainly have to let him pick his own coach. I cannot imagine an organization that hasn't won or done anything of note since the Eisenhower Administration would tell a guy as successful as Kevin Colbert "hey, you're keeping Darrel Bevell as the Head Coach or we're demanding you hire Arthur Smith or whomever."

I feel like it would take an offer to what Jon Gruden got to lure Colbert away which would be worth it IMO. No doubt Colbert would be the highest paid executive in the NFL.

I would imagine, given how long Colbert has hung onto Big Ben in Pittsburgh, that if he were to come into the Lions organization, he would keep Stafford around and build around him.

Mike Tomlin is under contract for just one more year with a mutual option. Perhaps the Lions make a trade for Tomlin? Perhaps Bill Cowher comes out of retirement. At this point, I don't care. If the Lions land Colbert he can hire whoever he wants.

This is what may make the Lions job appealing to Colbert. Rothelisberger is at the end of his career. Colbert has accomplished everything he can in Pittsburgh. Taking on a new challenge with a veteran QB and getting paid insane money to do it may be tempting. He will be a hero in Detroit if he makes it to even an NFC Championship game.

Bill Cowher is only 63 lol. Seriously though, I've been as negative towards this franchise as anyone could be over my 33 years on this planet and with good reason I might add. But if they pull off a deal to get Kevin Colbert I'll STFU, sit back, and watch without over the top or hyperbolic criticism. Even if he decides to keep Stafford and give the dude the keys to the city.

I remember the comparison yesterday to Al Avila and knowing who he wanted and went out and got him and Sheila not having that same conviction. I think Sheila knows exactly who she wanted and that was Colbert and everybody interviewing is plan B.

They are both critical but the GM hire is more important.  They need to seriously improve their defensive talent along with making the right decisions around their offensive talent.   There is no ideal coaching hire without the right person filling the roster.     I’d love an ideal combo,  but I’d be more excited to land a Dodds or Colbert than if they got Saleh.

how do you take holmes over dodds?  or even dimitroff?

they said they wanted experience.

watch them hire holmes and then go for marvin lewis because of his experience.
