I've watched 4 maybe 5 interviews Hinch has done. This guy is really an up personality. Gardy was a pretty up guy but he pales in comparison. Maybe not the biggest thing but interesting.

Is it incorrect to think that Hinch's interviews are what Ausmus interviews were supposed to be?  Adept, thoughtful, and engaging, but without excessive polish?  Or is it just the honeymoon period adjusting the tone?

Tigers hire Lombard, Coolbaugh, and Chip Hale to be bench, hitting, and 3rd base coaches.

What is going on? Don’t know much about Cool but the other two are good pick ups. Great choices so far Al

Hinch is certainly happy as a clam to have the job - of course we'll see how the joy holds up after the 1st 50-60 losses. But OTOH, he's been through losing before.

to me this is the key quote: "Our job is to read and react.”

I love the data. You use it to decide who you want on your team, what you will give up to get a certain player, how you take your *base* approach to the other team. How you construct a player's improvement plan. But the core of any athletic competition is that at any given time a player may be exceling past his expectation, or alternately failing to play to his established norm. Once the game starts, to win extraordinarily, is by definition to ride unexpected performances and protect players from their bad ones. That isn't and can never be in the numbers.

Now some will argue that no manager can guess the state of his players any better than their averages, and that is a fair argument but I don't agree with it.

So, the brainiacs/suits at FSD — please don’t quell some of this organizational excitement and momentum by announcing that you’re re-signing Shep + Jack to be back in the booth for 2021. 😬

Personally, I think AJ Hinch deserves to assemble the booth talent for next season. 😁. This brings to mind a thought  — we have AJ Hinch here rehabbing his image — would bringing Thom Brenneman into the FSD booth next season be taking things a step too far? I’m torn on how I feel about it. I sense that Thom might need a full year (or two) out of the game to continue let things air out a little more, while slowly beginning to repair his image.

I believe Josh Lewin is unemployed, yeah? I wouldn't at all mind bringing him back, as long as we have a solid analyst. (edit: it appears Josh is doing part-time PBP on Red Sox radio. I'm sure he could get out of that)

Regarding an analyst, I wouldn't want an all-data-no-charisma guy, nor a thoughtless cheerleader like Rod, but somewhere between the two. Not sure who that would be.

Wasn’t aware of this. In my lifetime, second only to George & Al, sit Josh & Gibby. Would love having Josh back!

Yup. I edited my post FYI. He has a part-time gig with Boston currently.

You might be correct that Hinch is probably just happy to have a job.

We will see how Hinch likes an early phase of the ramping up part of rebuilding.  Arizona was his first gig.  He was right place & right time with the Houston rebuild.  The Tigers aren't in the same place that the Astros were when he took over.

I’m wondering if Lewin may have burned a few bridges when he left. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumblings he may not have been the easiest to work with. His work history in Chicago, Detroit and Dallas seems like he’s been good for short bursts...

With the Yankees moving out of Trenton, the Tigers possibly could end up there if Erie gets passed over. The Trenton folks were very pi$$ed off at the Yankees and said as much in a letter to them.

possibly...

AAA- Toledo

AA- Erie or Trenton

High A- West Michigan

Low A- Lakeland

Why switch Lakeland and WM? I assume it's just an error?

The Florida State League and the California League will be moving to Low A in 2021.

I imagine the purpose of this is so the younger guys, up until High A, can train in one facility. Little to no travel.
That’s why I’m thinking (hoping) the Tigers can just flip their high and low A team locations.

Sorry, can someone remind me - everyone effectively loses one farm team for next year, yes?

So which level got lost? I don't know this stuff as well as you chaps.

This tiger team is behaving very weirdly this offseason.   I think its very refreshing.   Now go get some players to help the kids develop around a core of veterans.

Nah, **** that guy.

there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a homerun. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame

Yes to question one.

The answer to 2 is still being worked out. Some leagues might be condensed or level might be changed so there is no clear answer to that.

You have to suppose that it will be mostly short season and rookie league affiliations that may disappear.  I don't see teams trying to get by without at least lowA, highA, AA,AAA. I think it's easier to envision the system for high schoolers and internationals consolidating at the bottom end as a lot of what use to happen there is now happening in Latin American development leagues and/or the NCAA.

Oh yeah that's true. I meant we don't know which teams are gonners yet and who is going where. It's not like they came out and said we're eliminating this level so all those teams in the Carolina league, fore xample, are gone.
