I was going to pick Nathan too.  Although Billy Wagner hasn't gotten in yet and they have very similar numbers.

The player with the most saves not in the hall of fame is...K-Rod.

Francisco Rodriguez | 437 SV | 2.86 ERA | 10.5 K/9

Billy Wager | 422 SV | 2.31 ERA | 11.9 K/9

Joe Nathan | 377 SV | 2.87 ERA | 9.5 K/9

Compare these guys to these 2 HOFers:

Bruce Sutter | 300 SV | 2.83 ERA | 7.4 K/9

Lee Smith | 478 SV | 3.03 ERA | 8.7 K/9

Will K-Rod be the next former Tigers players to get in the HOF?

Saves have always seemed hokey to me..  I guess if you want to put a relief pitcher in the HOF great, but there should only be a very small amount of them in there.

I know WAR isn't the end all, but KRod's is 24.1.  Mike Moore who lost double digits 11 out of 14 years (yea, the guy that used to get lit up all the time as a tiger) with his 161-176 career record, a 1.418 Whip, 1.44 K/BB ratio,  and 4.39 era has a war of 27.9.  Joe Nathan is 26.7.

The position just isn't as valuable even as the #3 or #4 starter.

There is a case to be made for Bill Freehan, but he probably won't make it.

Another guy that I am surprised didn't get more attention is Juan Gonzalez.  I know he played in the steroid era, so that probably hurts him.

Does Jim Leyland count?  Or is it just players?

And if Harold Baines and Jack Morris can get in, then Lou Whitaker and Ian Kinsler should both be in there.

Juan was never looking for space in a  Hall, he  just wanted a good Apartment.

you cant play the harold baines and jack morris game.  if those guys are the bar by which players are judged, you have an argument for about 100 guys.

But you can argue that Whitaker is as good or better than half the second basemen in the Hall of Fame.

I don't think he'll make it.  He's a borderline guy with connections to steroids.

Nathan is interesting.  He's someone who I don't think belongs but will probably get a lot of consideration as a top closer.

God I forgot about Nathan being a Tiger.  That whole stretch from 2005-2015 or so..the number of random guys we had on the team for only a year or so....Stairs, Sheff, Nathan etc.

A few years back before we traded him I thought Kinsler had an outside shot at it, at the time he was still putting up solid numbers.

If he could've maintained his 2017 pace for 4 or 5 more years he would've finished around 75WAR and he may have had a chance but unfortunately for him he just fell off a cliff shortly after.

Verlander and Cabrera are first ballot locks.

All this thread needs now is for Chaz to concern troll about whether Verlander goes in as a Tiger or an Astro.

If he wins one more CY Young and one more ring as an Astro, he goes in as an Astro. 😁

Jarrod Washburn - I will never forget this one.....dude had a 2.5 ERA or something when we got him and it was crickets about the deal and I was so confused as to why.  He ended up blowing for us and retired after that season....weird.
