  1. I have been lurking again for a few months and enjoyed the trip down memory lane Bert. It was enjoyable to share the Tiger’s revival of 2003-6 with everyone here. I returned from retirement to show how slow and feeble I am. I have embarrassed everyone I have ever known and will return to my basement. PS, I still think Clevlen can make it.
  2. I fault the players at this point because decertification is a sham. They have played this game twice before, won, and immediately formed a union again. I truly hope the court does not allow it to happen a third time. The premise of suing for complete financial information of private companies is excessive since one of the teams is a publicly owned company. I believe investor information must be made available, which can be used to accurately estimate all revenue streams not attached to the local market. FWIW, the Packers only made $9 mil in 2010 as one of the iconic franchises in the league. They may not have a fancy stadium to generate revenue, but they also do not have excessive stadium debt payments either. It took me several years to warm back up to MLB after '94 and I'm quickly approaching that level of distaste for the entire NFL.
  3. The only knock remaining on Tyron Smith is that he hasn't played LOT in college. It will come down to an evaluation at the combine if his pass blocking skills are elite or if he is more of a ROT. I don't think we'll get to see him try to pass block an elite OLB or DE before the draft. I think he's a bit of a gamble but highly talented.
  4. I didn't enjoy any of his top four commercials. I am tired of seeing the Detroit fist referenced. Yes, we have a statue of a fist -- let's move forward. I enjoyed the section containing the Fox Theatre but it would have been better if they filled it with people instead of the emptyness. To me, the entire commercial felt cold and I wanted it to end.
  5. Seven years passed between her student teaching and the sexual encounter. She was probably four-five years older than us and I seem to remember she looked pretty good at the time.
  6. The Cowboys wheeled and dealed in the 1991 draft as referenced in the link below. 1991 Review: Cowboys Strike Gold by Wheeling and Dealing in the 1991 Draft|Know Your Dallas Cowboys: The Blog The Falcons selected Matt Schaub in the third round of the 2004 draft after selecting Mike Vick in the 2001 draft. Schaub was traded to Houston in 2007 with seconds in 07/08 to Atlanta and a swap of firsts in 2007. The Chargers selected Charlie Whitehurst in the third round of the 2006 draft after trading for Phillip Rivers in the 2004 draft. Whitehurst was later spun for a third round pick in the 2011 draft and a swap of seconds in 2010. I do not feel it hurts a franchise to draft a BPA QB and it may be a good move for the Lions to make in 2011.
  7. I know. I think nearly every guy in those classes would have gone for her. However, I don't think she was into 17 year olds at the time.
  8. Nicole Long student taught my senior English class. I'm still amazed how close to home some of these situations occur. #6: Nicole Long - The 50 Most Infamous Female Teacher Sex Scandals - Zimbio
  9. I don't believe Shaun Hill is going to take this team to the Super Bowl and I don't have insight into Zac Robinson's practice performance to believe he will either. Stafford has had a hard time getting onto the field and there is a chance 2011 will continue this trend. I would rather spend a 3-4 round pick on a QB to hopefully be behind Stafford and Hill than wait until the 2012 draft to select someone should Stafford again have injury issues. I think/hope the 2012 season is the beginning of a Super Bowl window and I don't want to spend it without a QB. Thanks for such succinct and insightful commentary.
  10. I don't think it is wasting a pick at all. I would rather have a quality young QB on the roster that can step in if Stafford proves to be injury prone. I don't think Hill is a QB that can win a Super Bowl and I don't want to wait until the 2012 draft to have a backup plan in place. I think this is a fairly deep QB draft without the high end talent, and a diamond in the rough could be found. If Stafford proves he's healthy and the developmental QB works out, there is always the trade possibility like the Falcons did with Vick and Schaub. My thought process implies that the QB is the BPA.
  11. I played around with the Drafttek simulator and came up with the following: 1. Von Miller OLB Texas A&M 2. Davon House CB New Mexico 3. Christian Ponder QB Florida State 4. Chris White ILB Mississippi State 5. Orlando Franklin OT Miami My personal philosophy is that a holding call and sack are the most disruptive plays in football and both result from pressuring the quarterback. I think we have the talent to pressure but need more talent to stop the run (and force the pass) at the LB position, hence Von Miller and Chris White to compete with Levy, Carpenter, Palmer, Dizon, etc. CB is obvious and Davon House feels a little early and may be a bit of a reach in the second. I'm a proponent of drafting a developmental QB in this draft and Ponder requires some work but he does have some talent. This is maybe a little earlier than I would have liked but I'll live with it. I wish Orland Franklin had been a developmental center, but I'm not going to complain too much. Would anyone else try to take a developmental QB in this draft?
  12. True and good point. I'm sure there are OSU boosters who would pay much more for a pair of gold pants if it were common practice. It appears they all received fair market value for the items. If they had received 10K then it would be excessive. I understand the rule, but I think it is a little odd. I'm more disgusted these guys would sell their pieces of history.
  13. I'm an OSU alum and I'm furious OSU players would sell their Big Ten Championship rings and Pryor his "Gold Pants". These are accomplishments people should cherish for the rest of their lives. However, I didn't realize there were such harsh penalties for selling your personal property. I think it is very weird that someone cannot sell their possession, if they so choose. The tattoo situation is completely on the players. I'm extremely confident they should have known better on this account.
  14. I think the problem with Ryan Perry is his landing position with his left leg. I'm definitely not a pitching coach, but I think it is too close to the rubber. This limits his extension and gives hitters a little bit longer to react than a typical 95+ mph pitcher. However, if it were that simple I'm sure someone would have corrected it.
  15. We already have our first round pick for next year -- Victor Martinez.
