  1. A couple of guys I forgot to add Aquilino Lopez Clay Rapada
  2. A rough estimate not including Miner because I don't want to look at how many relief innings he threw but the pen has thrown 245 innings and surrendered 158 walks which is entirely unacceptable for a contending team to give up. If you do hold people accountable the first one has to be Hernandez because it certainly won't be Leyland or Dombrowski.
  3. No need to read all 15 boxscores but that's 15 where the pen could have performed, add this one it will be 16. I'm not even asking them to win all those games but even if they just won 7 or 8 of those games they would be 5-6 games over .500 and definitely in contention. There's no excuse really to have a poor bullpen either considering last year it was their achilles heel and not much was done to address it. What this thread is here for is to discuss the current pitchers in the pen, their future with the organization and to discuss anybody in the farm system that can help next year. We can throw in a couple free agent names but we also have some K-Rod threads already so this is mainly just for the Tigers organization. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280331106 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280504109 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280513107 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280516129 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280525106 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280526103 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280527103 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280603111 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280616126 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280620125 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280710106 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280719101 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280725106 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280803130 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280805104 So here's what the Tigers have this year and moving forward Miner-still have to include him because we don't know what will happen Fossum Dolsi Jones Rodney Zumaya Seay Fien Perry
  4. I agree but I mentioned earlier last night that I don't think fans were just booing Shef last night for his comments. I don't think a lot of the fans were aware of the comments in the last 24 hrs, they will certainly be aware of them now but before this I don't think the fans cared.
  5. Sheff isn't the only one that does that, also I never considered Sheffield to have speed. There's a difference between having speed and being a good base runner. I consider a guy like Guillen to be a very good base runner but he doesn't have speed.
  6. Wasn't Inge quite vocal in spring training about wanting out and not wanting to play C? He never got booed it seemed. I agree Sheff is being a loser but it seems he will get booed for voice his displeasure for him wanting to win badly.
  7. I hope Renteria and Inge get loudly booed as well because neither of those guys are producing. Sheff is just more outspoken and I'm not sure if you should penalize him for that. I don't like Sheff right now but I will call a spade a spade and Sheff isn't the only one sucking it up.
  8. Why would the pints taste better? He's still going to be in the lineup tonight.
  9. The problem is the closer market isn't very good beyond KRod, you can go after Fuentes but I imagine a few teams will have interest in him. Hoffman has been awful this year, Soriano has battled injuries, Lyon is pretty meh. Tigers took a chance on Jones being the cheap relatively speaking alternative and it exploded in their faces, you can try and find that under the radar guy but like Leyland said a week or so ago "if you ain't got a bullpen you ain't got nothing" of course he just echoed the comments of Yogi Berra. If you want to get that under the radar guy be prepared for the consequences if he doesn't pan out. I don't like the price KRod will demand but the Tigers aren't in position to be picky with who they want, they need a lock solid closer.
  10. Tigers have drafted a lot of guys early this year with the plan to put them in the pen, they haven't developed them yet though.
  11. You think voters will hold an injury against Longoria in voting for ROY? His numbers are spectacular and one of the biggest reason the Rays are even in the hunt. If Longoria doesn't get it there should be an investigation.
  12. No chance at CC, Tigers will be bidding against a host of teams. If Rodriguez is looking to go to a team that has a shot to win then the Tigers will be one of the top teams in that mix because all other contenders currently have a closer.
  13. Interesting move, I guess the Tigers will see what he has in the remaining two months. If he has some success they will probably bring him back next year because it kind of defeats the purpose to just have him this year because he's not capable of doing everything on his own. Surprised they wouldn't give this opportunity to a guy like Lambert or Vasquez.
  14. I thought Pudge was productive at the plate this year, he did draw more walks. I would rather see Pudge behind the plate than Inge but obviously the braintrust thinks otherwise.
  15. That might be true as well, both are extremely emotional players and do want to win you can't deny that. Things just haven't gone the way they wanted it to go.
  16. What happened to the old Jimmy Leyland that took Bonds to task in Pittsburgh? Seems like Jimmy right now is a lot of bark but no bite.
  17. That would be fine as long as it doesn't end up with the Yankees making the playoffs.
  18. I can't really answer this question until some questions are answered about this team going forward such as. What's the budget for the team next year? Who will be the manager? Will this team be able to shed additional salary before free agency begins eg. not electing to have Renteria return and whether they can trade Sheffield and how much of that salary will they eat. I will make one additional comment and I hate to say it because this team needs a lot of help in the pitching department but I believe this team desperately needs another bat in the lineup to bat behind Cabrera. How is Cabrera supposed to score runs with the likes of Inge, Renteria, Sheffield-this year, Joyce batting behind him? Cabrera is an extremely gifted player but some people just won't pitch to him next year and let the other guy try and beat them we even saw that with Cabrera yesterday against Oakland. Cabrera was 1-2 with a double and two walks and he didn't score a run yesterday. Another game against TB he was 3-3 and didn't score a run. They need a slugger batting behind Miguel, whether that's a healthy and productive Sheffield, Pat Burrell or Adam Dunn in LF it doesn't matter they just need somebody behind him.
