Thank you for all the posts about Brian. I know he meant a lot to this online community and he loved talking with so many on this forum. His heart was with all the Detroit teams long after his family moved out of the area. Tonight on the Virginia Tech campus we will be having a candlelight vigil and you will be pleased to know that I will be proudly wearing a Tigers hat as the representative for Brian. I'm an Orioles and Nationals fan and no matter what baseball game I go to whether it is college or MLB I wear my Tiger hat I got to honor Brian.

Rough day for many today. Welcome to our new grad student @ VT. My thanks to Brian's family for their kindness and updates also. I hope an evening with friends will lift my funk.

Miss you too Brian. You were the reason I joined this board and I still have your bracelet on. Been over year since it has come off my wrist.

It doesn't feel like two years.

Hope you're watching the games from up there!

Oddly or coincidentally, I remember having a conversation about Bird with Brian a few years ago. We were talking about former big leaguers, who we liked, etc. I think it would be cool if that is so.

rough week this week

Still miss you, Brian. I wish you were still estrepe1 and we were talking in the game thread like we used to. We'll talk about the Tigers in person for the first time some day when my time comes. You've been in my thoughts and prayers during this very rough week for me.

Once again Brian, I'd like to thank you, for the magnificent example you provided us, of how it's done, not just in some sports forum, but in living one's life in general. You set the gold standard for all of us to strive for.

We were so blessed to have you here, and I take comfort in knowing of the treasures you built in Heaven, even during your short time here on Earth.

Default Two Years Later

The plaque at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland is finally put in place. My thanks to Yoda for heading this up and the Tigers for following through for Brian (and for us).

It was the least we could do. We wanted to make a little something out of it but they just threw it in there and never notified anyone. We will do something when we all get together.

I just saw this thread...I finally got curious enough to see who exactly Brian was after I realized he was in more than one person's signature on the board.

I read through most of the thread, and unlike me, was pretty choked up as I went through it. I think everyone feels a connection, even those who didn't personally know him, just through what the site was about. I would probably be upset if I heard about any Tiger fan's passing, and Brian's is especially that way because he was here. I'm disappointed I wasn't around the site back in 2007 and before that when he was around, because I've looked back at his posts and wish I was around for it to have some great conversations with him.

In any case, I'd like to post my RIP wishes to Brian at this point.

Sidenote: For anyone interested...Tigers are 3-1 in games they play on the anniversary, or on Brian's b-day...and it took extra innings to put away the Tigers on 7/19/08.

Also, I feel upset at myself now for not even noticing the bench at 5/3rd park in the 5 or 6 Caps games I've attended since the dedication. I will make certain to seek it out the next time I go.

From time to time, I go back and check out some older threads. While doing that recently, I came across these posts by Brian (whom I never knew, but have still enjoyed reading his stuff) in a political discussion which was about the UK bombings back in 2005. When I read these statements - it sent a chill down my spine......

Quote:

I think of Brian whenever one of the guys he followed in the minors does well. It's well know that he was a huge Granderson fan and that Curtis went out of his way to help his family when he died. Brian was also a fan of Clete Thomas and Scott Sizemore. Clete is already contributing and Sizemore is not far behind. Brian would have enjoyed that.
