I never met Bruce in person...
We had many emails shared between us over the years...
He had a way about making everyone feel special and important...
It wasn't fair that we all didn't get to meet him in person here on Earth...

I just found this while sorting through some files. I thought anyone here who interacted with Billy Ringo might enjoy reading it.

Nice find, Biff. Just the other day I was thinking about Billy and remembering how cool it was to get to meet him.

Sure could use some of Billy's sage advice in times like these. We miss you!

First time I have read the .pdf. Don't know how I have missed it. Please, who wrote this? That is one of the warmest tributes I have read. It also prompted me to see what Lakeland was doing on the field on that date and they were in Sarasota. Lot of big names on that roster.

I thought about Bruce this morning. I was just remembering how it used to make me smile when I opened my email box and had a mail from him, just saying hi and regaling me with some great stories, etc. I really miss that and him.
I wonder how his wife is doing? He loved her so, so much.Of all the things in life I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

I for one am glad I got to meet him. I don't think I was the only one that went to that West Michigan baseball game awhile back wanting to find out exactly "Who is Billy Ringo?"
Yes, he certainly lives in memory for some of us on this board."Only Lions fans can predict a victory when their starting quarterback has a broken arm." -unknown
"I'm going to go the Pistons' game tonight and watch Sheed jack up threes." -unknown

After seeing this thread bumped, I called Lloyd, Bruce's brother, to see how he and the family were doing.
Apparently Bruce's wife is 75 now, has diabetes and isn't driving anymore but her daughter is able to get her to the places she needs to go. Bruce was a cradle robber!
Lloyd and his family are doing well. All of Bruce's brothers are getting together for a little reunion next weekend and I asked him to let them all know that we think of Bruce often and that the spirit of Billy Ringo lives on with all of us who were lucky enough to have met him; in real life or online.

Thanks for reaching out and getting us an update, Biff. That was nice.

I never had the chance to meet Bruce in person...
I was fortunate in that we exchanged numerous Emails over the years...
I treasure our conversations...
Bruce was wise and insightful...
He left us all a powerful quote, which I consider one of the very best ever written on the topic...
It was his signature line on his posts...
And I know how sincere he was and what great importance he placed in this area of thought...
I have thought this over very long and I conclude that there is no reason whatsover for war. It brings suffering, hardship and death, over and over again. War is the antithesis of Love. It, of all things, is most unreasonable. - B. Ringo

Every now and then, something will happen and it will trigger me to look in Bruce's thread. Today, it was just some unsettling posts and reading about the death of someone on another message board I frequent for sports gaming. Unfortunately, at 43, I'm one of the young ones on that site, so you worry about seeing posts about deaths there a bit more than here.
However, the combination of the two things I mentioned made me think about Bruce. He was a guy I wanted to meet and got to. And, quite frequently, I always was amazed by how a thread would seemingly be going bad, and he'd make a post that brought it back in a better direction. I'm sure through time I have made that something that has happened 100 times more than it did in reality, but I do know it happened a few times. Occasionally, I'd PM about his ability to do that.
But reading those posts, and I wish everyone could do this, if you are angry at a certain poster, think to yourself about Billy Ringo. If you knew him, I'm sure it would change your course of action with that next post.
I hate to say this (and maybe I shouldn't admit this), of the deaths on the board, this is the one that hits me hard occasionally. Not that the others don't matter, but meeting Billy at the game and then seeing his final post about a week later, and at a time we started PMing again - it hurt. When I see Virginia Tech about anything, obviously images come up in my mind. I think they do for all of us. And we've had a few others we've lost as well. But, for some reason Bruce's departure from this Earth is one that I seem to think about quite frequently just out of the blue.
You are still missed buddy. But, your impact still lives within the ones here who were lucky enough to post with you and actually meet you. I guess that's enough 2 a.m. rambling for tonight."Only Lions fans can predict a victory when their starting quarterback has a broken arm." -unknown

Today is the 7th anniversary of Bruce's passing. I spoke with his brother Lloyd today and he is in good spirits. He passes along a greeting to everyone who attended the game with Bruce back in 2006 and thanks you all for keeping the memory of Billy Ringo alive and well.
Bruce's wife is doing mostly well. She has had some physical ailments and isn't entirely independent but is doing well nonetheless.

Thanks for the update Biff.
We really need to get another Whitecap game going either this year or some year. I enjoyed those games, probably more than the Tiger MB game I went to. For most of us, what we know of each other on the MB is about all we really know about each other. The Whitecaps game (I think we did it two years) was a perfect way to meet a few people in a pretty nice setting. I'm always glad that I went to that last game, because of Bruce's passing away soon after the game. I would've been really upset if I didn't go and didn't get to actually personally meet the legendary Billy Ringo.
Plus, it's been about two or three years since I've been at a Whitecap game. And I should go while my Whitecap cap still looks in reasonably decent shape."Only Lions fans can predict a victory when their starting quarterback has a broken arm." -unknown
