mlb needs to do what the nfl did.  if youre out in certain situations putting yourself in danger of getting the virus, you'll be significantly fined.

I would like to see the journalists covering this story actually trying to get to the bottom of why the Marlins are seeing this community spread within their org, while others teams have not seen such spread even with guys testing positive.

Is there something about the marlins clubhouse setup that isn’t working. Did they all ride a cramped bus together without masks on or something?

I noticed the tigers bullpen was setup in the left field stands. Didn’t notice anything similar in cincy.

If I am MLB at this point, I think I’m laying down the law on clubhouse layouts, and immediately repurposing the luxury boxes in every stadium as personal dressing rooms. And cut out the showers.

That might actually be a good selling point in future seasons.  "Miguel Cabrera walked naked through this luxury box".

there's your first covid cancelled game.

nice job marlins.

Realistic scenario:  Suppose this shortened 60-game season somehow manages to play out and the season actually gets to the playoffs.  Then, suppose one of the better teams in the playoffs quickly-by-chance experiences what the Marlins are currently experiencing?

What then?

I don't know why I can't find it right now, but I seem to remember during an intrasquad game a bit over a week ago, they had rain and all ended up int he clubhouse together.  The headline was something about Mattingly saying they were still working about protocols.

IDK if they would have tested positive so quickly. The positives started rolling in two days later, right? Chances are it was something at least several days before this.

If an outbreak happens to a team, they forfeit and their opponent advances. Bonus there is that the opposing team would hopefully be sitting a few days to a week if it happens early in the series.

Why couldn't the Marlins just go up into the concourse or something? It's stupid that they're piling all these players into a dugout.

The dugouts shouldn't even be open. Sit in the stands, concourse, wherever. But stay the **** away from each other. I don't understand what MLB is thinking. They had plenty of time to solve these problems.

I would have thought so, too, but this would have been on Tuesday, and I think the first positive came from a Thursday or Friday test, who was probably the source, and the tests that were found positive on Sunday could have been the ones taken Saturday. Tuesday to Saturday is plenty of time for people on the short end of the incubation range. And we know more people tested positive a couple days later.

Anecdotally speaking, I’ve heard from some health care workers that they are seeing the incubation period commonly falling in the 2-3 day range now that they are getting better contact tracing and know specifically when people were exposed.

That makes sense. You're probably right. I still prefer to think they all did some dumb miami ****.

On the Harvard Covid site they also state that it takes 2-14 days after exposure to go positive to that lines up does line up OK. And if you had a lot a guys who were had gotten wet driving the humidity up in a close room it's even worse because humidity increases the tendency to make your exhalations 'fog', and then hang in the air. That would be about the worst.

This is all very “Boston marathon bomber investigation on reddit” type analysis.

I’m just sick of hearing the hyperbole from media on what this all means and how we have to shut it down or not shut it down. Do some investigating and report on this ****. I don’t care if the nationals players took a vote and don’t want in Miami. Sure, it’s newsworthy, but by now they have to have a pretty good idea what caused this spread and we are getting nothing except people whining about whether or not they should have played on Sunday.

If it turns out the spread is due to some failure to social distance outside of the playing field, that’s what they need to worry about. You’ve got 29 other teams out there who still think it’s ok to wear masks on their chins and give hugs to the guy that just hit a dinger.

No Phillies have yet to test positive, with new results just being reported. It’s only been 2 days since Sunday which was probably the day with the highest likelihood of spread. I think if you make it to Friday with no positive tests on the Phillies, you can feel fairly optimistic.

reports today that a bunch of marlins players went out and partied in atlanta right before the outbreak hit the team.

if true, they should be fined.

if one player gets it from going out and then the team has to cancel games, they should take game checks away from the entire team.  that will get them to police themselves real quick.

If true, what a stupid thing to do. You wait all spring/summer for the season to start. And when you're finally getting ready, you can't just stay in your room, or go home.
