I think the NHL is completely perplexed about how to have a season without fans and not lose a gazillion dollars.

I think he is scoring on the goalie we just drafted last draft Bednar here:

Nice to see Zadina looking good

Silky play by Raymond to set up Jan Mursak for a goal:

Berggren with a quick release on a goal:

My current man crush Albert Johansson is really good y'all:

Veleno is playing against Seider, looks like Malmo is using Veleno on zone entries for their PP:

Seider being used as the QB at the top of Rogle's PP, decisive passing leads to a goal:

Tons of more footage in that twitter thread of both guys

if gallant is still available after this season is over, do the wings go for him?

i cant imagine he will be available, someone will get fired mid season on an under performing good team.  and he may not want to come to such a big rebuilding project like detroit.

Lord I hope not. He is about my least favorite person in all of hockey.

Gallant seems like a decent coach, but I do find it off that he was unceremoniously dumped by two franchises at odd times (at least in my opinion).  I honestly don't know much about either situation with the Panthers or Knights though.

I'm not a fan of Blashill so I would be fine with almost anyone else at this point.   I have to imagine Yzerman will pick his own guy to lead his rebuild in a season or two, but maybe not...

I remember his personality as a player, and as DWY notes, look at his employment history. He has a way of working hard at being disliked.

welp SHL might see some sort of hiatus here, per someone on the hf boards one of the games today was cancelled because 13 players tested positive for covid.  The Wings have Lindstrom and Larsson on one of the teams.

sure, but he doesn't play for the Wings now and he's played for and coached other teams since so it works for me...:silly:

Dom Luszczyszyn wrote an article for The Athletic grading each team's contract efficiency.  If you don't care for advanced stats type stuff you can probably disregard this post.  Each year he ranks the teams on their contracts for the year:

Quote

Like last year, each team is graded based on the same methodology in an attempt to measure which teams are most efficient with the money they spend. The contracts being graded are every healthy, non-ELC skater that my model has a projection for, as well as any dead money a team has on their cap via buyouts, salary retention and cap recapture penalties. That means no RFAs without a deal, no players on an entry-level contract, no players without significant NHL-playing time, no players on LTIR and no goalies. My model currently doesn’t have win projections for goaltenders beyond one season or expected contract value, so they were omitted. Unused cap space is also not part of the equation as there’s no telling exactly how that space would be used. This is just about the value of each contract currently on the books, signed as of Nov. 3.

Last season the Wings ranked 31st and they're up to 16th in this year's rankings, the biggest jump of any team.

Quote

The big difference is how much the team is paying per win, going from one of the league’s worst to one of the best at third overall.

With Abdelkader and Ericsson gone, and Helm only having one year left, Nielsen is their only "D" rated contract.

Quote

This is still a bad team filled with players unlikely to live up to their deals, but the short commitments make things much more palatable. That’s especially true for new additions Bobby Ryan, Jon Merrill and Troy Stecher, who all bring positive value.

The biggest pluses are the two newest deals for Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi. RFA deals usually come in below market price and the team got a great deal for both, especially Mantha, whose deal instantly becomes one of the league’s best.

So happy to finally have competent management.

I think zadina may be too good for this league

Apparently Detroit told Germany no to Seider playing in the WJC, but I think he has the okay to play with their mens team if he wanted.  It makes sense to be honest, though it would be pretty fun to see him in the WJC going crazy.

Good play by Raymond leads to an assist either from missing net on purpose or lucky bounce:

Sweet pass by Veleno:

Zadina with an easy apple:

ESPN's Greg Wyshynski says this is what NHL divisions could look like this season. I think the Central division would be the toughest, with the Canada most likely being the easiest (or maybe the West being easy)

are we all ready for a slightly improved red wing team that will still be bad but will somehow end up picking between 4 and 6?
