keep it coming!  have to get my hockey fix somewhere.

I mostly ride a road bike to keep in shape but I'm not real big on cold weather riding, so this time of year is when I transition to spending time on my cycling trainer in front of a hockey game a couple times a week. I'm gonna need a little more from DWY.....🚴‍♂️

November 1, with the time zone change, is when my weight tends to drift up 5-10 pounds until March 1. Then I try to get that all off by around July 1.

Looks like the Frolunda Red Wings will be playing Seider's Rogle tomorrow.  Hopefully we'll have some fun highlights.

Pronman did his ranking of NHL players/prospects under the age of 23.  The top Wings player was Lucas Raymond coming in at 17.  Ahead of him it goes: Matthews, Dahlin, Pettersson, Lafreniere, M. Tkachuk, Laine, J. Hughes, Kaako, Byfield, Q. Hughes, B. Tkachuk, Makar, Heiskanen, Stutzle, and Dach.  Frustrating that most of those were due to lottery luck but dang it Quinn Hughes.

Seider is at 38, Hronek 61, Zadina 71

zadina is a disappointment so far, but its still early.

Ya he certainly hasn't turned into a star like I hoped he would, but I still have high hopes of him being a good player for the Wings.  Putting up 15 points in 28 games as a 20 year old while largely skating with old man Filppula isn't the worst.

true, but its not like he was lighting it up for his national team or for grand rapids before that.

look, all players develop differently and he could turn out to be a really good goal scorer when paired with better linemates.  but for the 6th pick in the draft who was talked about as someone being in play as early as #3, its disappointing to see that he hasnt dominated yet at any level, much less the nhl.

bertuzzi gets $3.5 million.

Feels right to me.  Now we'll see if the buyout conspiracies were true!

Raymond had a nice snipe today:

Defenseman Albert Johansson with a nice backhand goal:

Veleno with the secondary assist, looks like they're running him on the half wall for their PP which is encouraging:

Secondary apple for Seider as well, still working up top on their first PP unit:

Scary looking play with Seider:

I’ll be shocked if Seider isn’t in the opening night roster.  I expect him to be on the top pairing within 20 games.   He’s super talented and this is still one of the worst teams in the league.

I think we will be surprised at how much difference improving the D can make. Seider is only one guy and won't be enough by himself, but I tend to think that the forward talent on the Wings ends up looking worse than it  really is because of the extreme weakness on D. Half the time the Wings forwards are playing 3 on 5. If Yzerman can score at least one more guy to play with Seider, I think things will start looking better pretty fast.

Mark me down for thinking the same about Seider as far as expectations right now.  I'm really excited about this kid.

Niederbach is back with the younger Frolunda team and just absolutely styling on the kids per usual:

Tough news for McIssac:

If it makes you sad about that draft heres a nice article on Berggren's breakout this season:

https://www.eprinkside.com/2020/11/2/three-changes-driving-jonatan-berggrens-offensive-explosion-in-the-shl

He's one prospect that I'm excited to see in a real camp with Detroit, sounds like his playmaking talent would be very useful for the Wings.

https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2020/11/red-wings-prospects-gaining-valuable-experience-in-sweden.html - decent prospect round up from Sweden with some quotes from Horcoff

That's actually a bit cheaper than I expected, very cool.  No ntc or nmc either I think.  Prashanth Iyer brought up a good point about expecting Mantha to come in around Tatar's salary percentage which would have been $6.25 million / year in today's cap.

Some prospect notes:

Scott Wheeler predicting plenty of Wings on Sweden's WJC team:

Niederbach with a nice goal in the younger leage:

Hronek with a goal against Sweden on something called the Euro Hockey Tour?

The Athletic tackled ETA's on wings prospects:

Seider - 2021 when SHL season ends

Makes sense to me, Wheeler and Bultman talk about how he's doing great in the SHL and just is ready for the NHL.  Everything I've seen of Seider screams he can play in Detroit right now and probably be their best defender most nights.  Whether that translates when he has the Wings' talent around him and the spotlight on him, who knows.  I'm just excited to see him in Detroit.

Veleno - 2021-22

Both writers saw him as an AHL player next season anyways so SHL -> AHL makes sense.  Fun quote: "I think one of the things that can get lost in his development is that he was technically still eligible to play in the QMJHL as an over-ager this year. Instead, he’s playing his second pro season in his second pro league, before his 21st birthday."  He seems to be playing solid hockey from what I see in SHL clips, I'm optimistic he could jump onto the Wings' third line in 21/22.

Raymond - 2022 (either second half of 2021-22 or early in 2022-23)

They seem to think the Wings will be patient with Lucas and won't rush him to the NHL.  Wings will want him to jump into a top six / power play spot right away so they'll give him some time in North America.  I think it makes sense to let him get up to a ppg player before jumping to the Wings although I want to see him now!

Berggren - same as Raymond

Wheeler seems to love Berggren but both writers preach patience even with his hot SHL start.  With injuries he hasn't played a ton of hockey over the last few years and he will need to get used to the NA ice size.  I agree it makes sense to spend a season or a chunk of time in the AHL.

Albert Johansson - 2022-23

I think Johansson gets underrated a bit outside of Detroit (and I probably overrate him), Wheeler sees him really improving but topping out at maybe second pairing defender.  I think it is too tough to say but Johansson's skating gives me a lot of hope he can be a really solid second pairing guy.  Still it makes sense to not rush him as he still needs more strength and defenders take longer to bake at times.  I'm pretty excited about this kid though.

Some other names I thought of note: Tuomisto/Mastrosimone/Niederbach/Wallinder 2023-24... I ended up only omitting McIsaac in the end because I can't see him overcoming these injuries.

How can you not be excited about the Wings. I miss hockey more than I ever thought I would. December will be brutal without it.
