There was a time when the Saints were a laughing stock and their fans invented wearing paper bags over their head. Just need to stumble into the right QB/Coach combo.

there was a time when every team in the league was a laughingstock.

only the lions have never been able to throw off being a laughingstock.

In nearly 40 years prior to Brees, they made the playoffs only 5 times and won 1 playoff game. They were basically the Lions.

Miami should have given extra picks to Detroit to draft Tua.

Who said the trade had to be with Miami? Jacksonville, LA Chargers.

I just don't think teams viewed enough separation between Tua or Herbert to warrant giving up extra assets.

Because if the Lions ask, those teams will want to trade.

Especially when they can just stand pat and get their guy with zero fear of the Lions and Giants taking a QB.

Carolina also signed Bridgewater to a large contract, so who was the real threat of jumping the Dolphins and Chargers? Jacksonville?

it seems like the real issue was carolina or jacksonville didnt want to move up or the lions didnt want to move down past 6.

Carolina just gave Bridgewater $33 million guaranteed. Not sure they are not only going to draft a QB in the top 10 before he takes a snap, but trade good picks? If the Lions drop down to 9, they probably lose out on Okudah, Simmons and Brown. There probably wasn't much mutual interest there.

Along with pass rushers, CB seems to be the one position this year where there is a clear discrepancy between the top guy and everybody else so if the Lions were **** bent on taking a DB I suppose I can see them not wanting to take the chance of dropping too far down.

other than the raiders at 12/19, once indy gave up their #1 there wasnt anyone else left with the desire or the capital to move up.

There were analysts and scouts who thought highly of CJ Henderson though. I wonder what the gap, if any, is between Okudah and Henderson.

Trading back was Quinn's best chance to save his job. He has too many weaknesses on the roster to come back from nine wins in two seasons. And drafting Okudah is a wash.

Yup. When you end up using the 3rd pick in the draft just to get back to where you were last season, you ain't going nowhere.

okudah is a physical press corner who can tackle.

henderson is not.

Henderson can't tackle at all, he wasn't a fit

i wanted them to trade down and get more picks too.  but if they were going to stay at 3 and young was gone then okudah was the obvious pick.  they needed a corner for next season and they need one for the future.  the lions play a style of defense that favors coverage over pressure and blitzing and to do that you need corners who can cover and tackle.

okudah just clicks every box for them right now.

All true.

The next staff will be happy to have him.

In the end Martha hasn't played it any better than her hubby. The best chance the Lions had to get out of their eternal purgatory  was to fire Quinn and Patricia, take Tua and trade Stafford after Tua understudied for a season.

that could very well be.  im not sure i agree with their philosophy on defense.  but if they are going to play that way, they need a potential stud corner like okudah.

Yeah an injury prone QB ought to get them out of purgatory.

Whether your a blitzing team or not, you need to have good corners. You're not going to get to the QB every time so you still need corners who can cover.
