Fake OOTP 2020 Tigers

Recommended Posts

Since I am bored.............I downloaded OOTP 21 and I am driving through with the Tigers.         Are you doing the same?

I moved the Tampa Bay Rays to Charlotte and they are now the Carolina Breakers.

In 2021 we add Montreal Expos,  Las Vegas and add DH to NL and go to 4  8-team divisions

I made West Michigan my AA team.

Replacing the Whitecaps as the Low A team is The Ann Arbor Aardvarks

C Scivicque  .190 / .227 / 190 / .418    (Hasse was horrible and Grayson got hurt)

I traded Jeimer Candelario (hitting .178 wih prospect Daniel Reyes to Cleveland for Pitching Prospect Skyler Arias and 3b Yu Chang who  got hurt in his 1st game as a Tiger ).

I am shopping for a good defensive SS.   Maybe trade Maybin and move Niko to LF.    Goodrum is costing us too many hits at SS.

Tigers Nip White Sox, 4-3
The Detroit Tigers picked up a win at Guaranteed Rate Field, knocking off the Chicago White Sox, 4-3. Starting pitcher Casey Mize was an essential part of his team's success. Even with the win, the Tigers have a dismal 22-41 record.

Jonathan Schoop was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Detroit. With no one out and the game tied in the top of the sixth inning, Schoop had a clutch at-bat. Facing Chicago hurler Michael Kopech, he hit a 2-run home run to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.

"It was a solid team effort," said Mize after the game.

June 5th? Boy, you sure got Mize up there in a hurry, didn't you? And for a 21-40 team! 😄

White Sox are pretty good in your world, ain't they?

And 65 and wind blowing out to left in the south side park in early June? I will definitely take that!

This is actually quite fascinating but like much of what happens here it’s kind of over my head.

Ha ha, me too, but I can't just jump in after 60 games.  I need to start on opening day.  And the simulation needs to be doctored so that Miggy is Triple Crown Miggy.

I can't promise you a triple crown but I can promise you a season starting at the beginning.

I started with OOTP4.  I always hated the early editions that were all fake names because they never had MLB approval.  The players on the teams were represented (ie, you could tell Detroit's catcher was Ivan Rodriguez even though in name it was Blake Rigglestein or something like that).  And then well before the time that they had MLB approval, I changed my tune and enjoyed the fake names more than the real players.

Case in point, Reid Brignac was once a Tampa prospect that was in OOTP had a wealth of potential and was an annual all star.  Yes, this Reid Brignac.

So, I do an online fake league with fake players.  And I have a solo league based on reality through the 1994 strike and then simmed out about a decade (with fake players drafter from 1995 on) and then took over the Tigers.  No Tampa, no Arizona, Montreal never moved.  And now I am in season 2019 and have just realigned MLB geographically.

Lol, I think of myself as being in the bottom quadrant of baseball intelligence here. And that's leaning positive.

This sounds like something that requires energy and focus, things that I don’t particularly enjoy doing. I am however willing to enjoy the fruits of everyone else’s labor.

Well,  Ivan Nova was beyond brutal.  ERA over 7.   I couldn't take it anymore.  I had to let the kid up.

And yes, I am zipping through this year (I don't play the games, I make the rosters and set the lineups and let it simulate).    I just lost 17 in a row.    So, as you can see, the game is quite realistic.

Tigers Edge Indians, 3-2
The Cleveland Indians inaugurated their 2020 season with a tough 3-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field. Starting Pitcher Matthew Boyd had perhaps the best performance for Detroit. Boyd, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Joe Jimenez closed the door for Detroit, picking up his 1st save of the year.

The Indians had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Tigers going into the top of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old shortstop Niko Goodrum came to the plate. Goodrum hit a run-scoring triple on a 1-1 slider from Cleveland hurler Shane Bieber. It was Goodrum's 1st triple of the year.

"It was a solid team effort," said Boyd after the game.

Indians Win 1-0 Walk-Off

The Tigers dream of a perfect 162-0 season is shot down before the start of April, despite a brilliant start from Spencer Turnbull, who went 7 strong innings, allowing only 3 hits, walking only one and striking out 6.    The Tiger bats were no help as they only managed 3 hits, with Miguel Cabrera's double being the only extra base hit.    Buck Farmer came into the game in the 8th inning and like Buck Farmer does early in the season, failed to keep the Indians off the bases.  Buck Gonna Buck.

Roberto Perez clinched the win with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth off of David McKay, who allowed a guy that Buck Farmer walked to score.

When General Manager MC Sonics was asked about Farmer he merely sighed in an exasperated release of pure defeat and walked away.

"The crowd was happy until they realized they still live in Cleveland." said Tiger Manager Ron Gardenhire

Cabrera doubles with 1 out in the top of the 9th in a tie game and is not pinch run for?  Some of the AI leaves a little to be desired at times.

I might have editorialized that a bit.....

I don't play the games..............Maybe I need to have a setting about Pinch Running in there.

I generally don't either, not even playoffs.  I like the role of GM also setting the lineups & the pitching staff, but I don't do much with any of the other strategy options.

I'm playing out the games in my sim one batter at a time. Ninety-five percent of the at bats I just press "1" for swing away or just pitch, although on occasion I might call for a steal, or go infield in with man on third and less than two outs, or ... oh, I don't know ... maybe pinch run for Miggy after he doubles in the top of the ninth with one out in a tie game. 😁

In one recent game I elected to press "4" to hold a runner with a 65 steal tool at first, and after the pitch my catcher picked him off at first with a snap throw. I don't think that would have happened had I just pressed "1".

I bought the previous season version yesterday .. and have been in front of my computer ever since.

I played one entire season.  Miguel Cabrera and Spencer Turnbull had very good seasons, while both Jacoby Jones and Jordan Zimmerman had his best season as Tigers.

Probably not going to get into it too deeply after today.  Way WAY too time consuming to get deep into it.  It brings back memories of staying up nearly all night many years ago playing various versions of different virtual baseball simulation games / seasons.

I will probably create myself as a player .. and my brother too .. and may three virtual sons to follow in my footsteps.  Will probably become the greatest baseball family ever.  That's what I like about the 'edit' features of virtual games like these.

Indians Clip Tigers, 3-2

Cleveland right-hander Zach Plesac helped his team edge Detroit by the score of 3-2. Plesac kept the opposing lineup in check. Plesac got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 4 hits and walked 0 over 7 innings. Plesac allowed 1 run. Brad Hand got credit for the save for Cleveland. It was his 1st of the year.

The Tigers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Indians going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old third baseman Jose Ramirez came to the plate. Ramirez hit a run-scoring triple on a 0-1 fastball from Detroit hurler Daniel Norris. It was Ramirez's 1st triple of the year.

Tiger bats remain cold, surprising nobody.     MLB decided to burn all evidence of this horrible game so it wouldn't ever be broadcast again, not even during a pandemic.   Memorize this Box Score, it shall never be seen again.

Tigers home opener tomorrow against KC.  You get Nova.

The Detroit Tigers take Opening Day in dramatic fashion at Comerica Park, knocking off the Kansas City Royals, 5-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, with no one out and the game tied, 4-4, right fielder Victor Reyes won it for Detroit. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Reyes hit a 2-2 fastball from Scott Barlow for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 5-4 win.  There was some tension in the Tiger dugout when manager Ron Gardenhire wouldn't stop talking about episodes of "Soap".  He was the only one amused.

The Tigers got a solid start from newly-acquired Ivan Nova, who started and went 7 innings, striking out 6.

"And there was much rejoicing......yay "

Ballplayers behave, that what they say when we’re quarantined

And watch how you play

They don’t understand and so we’re…

Running just a simulation, holding on to this season

Trying to get a game in tonight and then you put the numbers in

And we calculate upper bounds and then you say

I think we’re alone now,

There doesn’t seem to be anyone around

I think we’re alone now,

The tapping of our keyboards is the only sound

Look at the outlier, we gotta post what we’re doing

‘Cause it’s all about SABR

If they ever knew and so we’re…

Running just a simulation, holding on to this season

Trying to get a game in tonight and then you put the numbers in

And we calculate upper bounds and then you say

I think we’re alone now,

On a dreary early-Spring day with no hope of sunshine the Tigers probably kissed goodbye their last chance of being .500 this season.
Detroit pitcher Matthew Boyd gave the Royals all they could handle, but in the end, Kansas City left Comerica Park with a 4-3 win. Boyd allowed 4 runs on 7 hits over 8.2 innings. Kansas City reliever Richard Lovelady picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Matthew Boyd was saddled with the loss. Ian Kennedy closed the game out for Kansas City, earning his 1st save.

Late-game drama came in the top of the eighth inning. With no one out and a runner on 1st, the batter, Whit Merrifield, hit a 2-run home run. It helped Kansas City seize the win.

"Where the ---- is the sun?"  - Every single player.

Kansas City, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
