2020 NBA offseason

The Hornets are also waiving and stretching Batum to sign Hayward so it's not just 120 for Hayward it's also the dead money from Batum.

First picking Adam Morrison in the top 5, then took Frank Kamisky instead of the giant offer from the Celtics to trade up and now is essentially paying 39 million a year(when factoring in the Batum stretch) for Gordon Hayward.   Jordan is determined to find him a great white player for his team or die trying.

Wild couple days. The only thing I really don’t understand is signing Plumlee when we already had Dedmon on the roster. Why sign Plumlee and cut/Stretch Dedmon? They could’ve just let Dedmon play out his contract and not even bothered with Plumlee.

It was done to create cap space for Grant.

When you stretch a guy you do it for the amount of years left on his deal +1 year.  So 5 total for Dedmon.  You take the amount of money he had guaranteed and divide it over those years.  Dedmon had $13M this year and only $1M next for a total of $14M over 5 years with is about $2.8M per year.  That is the Pistons cap hit for the next 5 years.

Plumlee received a 3/$25M deal.  If its a flat structure you are looking at $8.3M per year.  If it is stepped with raises this years number could be somewhere around $7M.

So keeping Dedmon = $13M cap hit.

Stretching Dedmon plus picking up Plumlee = $2.8M + $8.3M (And could be lower) for a total of $11.1M or roughly $2m in cap space created.

michael jordan makes joe dumars look like sam presti.

Joe Dumars actually built a championship team and Presti hasn't so it should probably be he makes Sam Presti look like Joe Dumars.

By the way, wasn't Jordan the GM in Washington when Hamilton was traded for Stackhouse?

Now they're likely stretching Smith apparently. Confusing move unless there's some other moves in the works.

Agree, it doesn't make much sense (aforementioned bias against stretching put aside).

The hinkie process model doesn't work nowadays with the lottery odds being smoothed.

I think Weaver's macro process makes sense but he lost a few micro deals so that is a bit alarming.

Contract years are all short and they are still going to be terrible while trying hard/building a culture. They are trying to lose on their own terms and give fans a reason to watch.

Pistons To Sign Veteran Guard Ellington

Quote

November 24th 2020 at 5:58pm CST by Dana Gauruder
Free agent shooting guard Wayne Ellington has agreed to a one-year, $2.6MM contract with the Pistons, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets.

The Pistons, who have engaged in a flurry of roster moves over the past week, are hard-capped but needed backcourt help and decided to bring in Ellington on a veteran’s minimum contract. Svi Mykhailiuk is the only other natural shooting guard on the roster.

This is Ellington’s second stint with the organization. He played 28 games for the Detroit during the 2018/19 season. He saw action in 36 games with the Knicks last season, averaging 5.1 PPG and 15.1 MPG. Ellington, 32, is a career 37.8% 3-point shooter.

Looks like we just signed LiAngelo Ball to a 1 year, non-guaranteed contract.

The middle brother. Was he ever projected to be as good as the other two before his off-court problems?

Yes, If you were talking to LeVar Ball.   No, if you were talking to anyone else on the planet.

Russ just got traded for Wall and a 1st, so luckily we dodged both of those bullets.

makes sense for both those teams, i guess.  two terrible contracts for good but very flawed players.  washington gets to get off the contract sooner but had to give up a pretty significant asset to do it.

ESPN came out with their projected standings based off rpm from their SCHOENE projections and they have the Pistons at 23.9 wins, only the Cavs are worse in the entire league.  Let the tanking begin!
