Just crazy to see it shown like that.  Not sure I like it, honestly.  Feels like everyone is trying to become the same team and other ways to win (post game, for instance) are just out the window.

Simmons tossed out an Andrew Wiggins and No. 2 for Blake Griffin and No. 7 deal. We’ll get to the specifics of that in a moment, but it’s Lowe’s response that was most revealing.

”Enough people have asked me what i’ve heard about Blake Griffin and how he’s looking. what am I hearing. This and that. That I think Detroit is going to have a market for him,” Lowe said. “I don’t think it’s going to be strong. They’re not getting two first-round picks. Or even a first round pick unless they take back something onerous too. But I’ve had enough teams ask me about Blake Griffin that I think there is still interest in what he can do to help you win.”

It's an interesting offer.  If I thought it would get me Edwards, I'd take in a heartbeat.  But, my guess is that he goes #1, so that makes this a tougher call.

Comes down to whether it's worth 1 extra year of salary to move up 5 spots and get a guy who's 6 years younger and usually healthy.  I think the answer is probably "yes".

wiggins would instantly become the board's whipping boy.  at least blake tries hard.

otoh, it makes the pistons worse, and they need to be worse to get into the top 3 next year so they can eventually pick 5th when the league screws them again in the lottery.

Don't know if its official or not but I saw that the NBA plans to start the regular season on December 22nd, its only going to be 72 games so they can finish in time before the Olympics.

New York and Detroit are obvious VanVleet fits, but their interest in a VanVleet megadeal in the $20 million-per-year range is unclear. Detroit has telegraphed to other teams that it would rather operate as a dumping ground for unwanted salaries, hoarding picks in the process, sources say

Are we finally figuring this "process" thing out?  About time.

Encouraging if true.

This is exactly what the Pistons should be doing this offseason, taking on bad contracts along with picks. It's really a perfect storm for a team like the Pistons that's just starting a rebuild with not much of a talent base to work with. Tighter COVID cap likely putting teams in a bigger cap crunch, Pistons one of few teams with lots of cap space so not much competition to execute this plan, strong 2021 free agent class potentially so teams will be more desperate to clear cap, strong 2021 draft potentially so it makes too much sense to accumulate picks in this draft.

I'd also like to see them trade down if possible in this draft. If the rumor of the Celtics wanting to move up is true, I'd seriously consider dealing 7 for 14, 26 and 30. Get as many lottery tickets as possible and trust your scouting staff to land a few hits.

It's funny, the offseason really hasn't been that much longer for the Pistons than it normally would be at this point(about 5 or 6 weeks longer since they stopped playing in mid March, so about a month early and they'd be about a week or two into the season under normal circumstances) but it seems like a lifetime ago since they have played.    Can't wait for the draft and for them to get back on the court.

I agree that the dumping ground-pick hoarding approach makes the most sense. But sad to think that means we're in for a long stretch of suck. Better than mediocreville though

Sign Wood

Sign VanVleet

Draft Williams at 7

Still have a little cap space in 20-21 and pick up another net 20M in 21-22 w Rose, Maker and Snell dropping off plus adding a little extension for Svi etc and then 22-23 you lose Blake

FVV/Kennard/Sekou/Blake/Wood with Rose/Svi/Williams/Bowen bench

This is a balance strategy, not a dump and restart and there are different ways to go, but VanVleet and Wood could be a part of a turnaround plan.

They even can be part of a dump and rebuild plan IF they are able to move Blake. Essentially would you rather have near $40M in unproductive cap space used on a guy who won't be here, or use it on two young pieces that can play with the younger pieces you are going to start picking up? There have been scattered rumors of a Blake+7+? for 2+ Wiggins... that would play into this kind of scenario for sure, if real.

The key point is What will Troy do with what Gores wants to have happen? Gores seemingly has resisted a full restart for a long time and may still, thus we may see a hybrid plan like above. Not saying it's what you or I want, but what can be seen as likely given the actual reality and history of Gores.

Hey at least we don't have SVG anymore. Good luck Pels...**** maybe we can try and fleece them...

The NBA Moratorium ends at noon today and teams are free to make moves and according to Woj the Pistons are trading Bruce Brown to the Nets for Dznanan Musa and a 2nd round pick(Toronto's).

Shouldn’t you hoopsters be getting hyped up for the draft? It is tonight, I think.

If Patrick Williams is there it sounds like he is going to be the pick but rumors are he is flying up team's boards so who knows.  I don't really have a strong opinion on any player so I really don't care who they take at this point.

I'll watch it for sure, as always.  And I'll definitely be paying attention to trades.  I hope the Pistons finally make some moves to acquire additional picks in this, or future drafts.  They've started with the Bruce Brown move, but I'd like to see more.

With the next couple drafts supposedly being stacked I wouldn't mind taking a developmental player who takes a year or two to develop, that way he wont be much help to us this year so we have a better chance of bottoming out.

In a perfect world Sekou takes some steps forward this coming season, the draft pick develops in the G League and/or in garbage time in the NBA then in 2021-22 Sekou starts to really hit his potential along with the 2020 draft pick and hopefully top 3 2021 draft pick.   We then could potentially have the makings of a young core we could build behind.

Agreed.  Which is why we can't use our cap to sign players that bring us back to the 9th seed.  Have to use it to absorb some contracts (along with gaining picks) that will keep us near the top of the draft for a couple of years and then look to begin pushing towards competitiveness in a couple of years when those contracts expire and the young draft picks have a year or two under their belt.

That's what I was thinking.  This must be the least amount of board activity leading up to a draft in history.
