Coronavirus: Coming to a Neighborhood Near You?

Recommended Posts

I remember standing in line for vaccinations in the 1970s.  I don't think these were emergency vaccinations but they were required.  I think one of them was mumps/measles/rubella.

My one vaccination story is from a friend about a guy who volunteered for the US Army and went airborne.  Story goes that they are in basic training lined up for the vaccination gun.  They are also giving each guy a little cup with something to swallow.   Guy in front of the airborne trooper says "hey man you don't have to take this one" and shows him how he's keeping the pill in his teeth and spits it into his hand.  Airborne guy says:  "That's ok, I'm here for the whole experience" and swallows his down.

Leadership...

My Trumpie cousin-in-law in Ohio, reported flu like symptoms but refused to get tested because he didn't want to add to the statistics.  Hopefully he doesn't get worse.

Tired of waiting so today I said eff-it, and finally just injected some clorox.

Didn’t the Obama transition team run a scenario on something like this bit the Trump transition team ignored it. They have also seemed to have lost the paperwork that went along with it.

I remember back in the 60s standing in line in a high school gym to get a polio vaccination. I don’t remember all the details since I was probably about six or seven. But then it was sugar cubes, probably didn’t need the storage the current vaccine does.

Also different times

Sugar cube, elementary school, 1958.

When I took the Christmas lights down yesterday, I shoved a couple of them up my butt for a few minutes.

Tell him if he tests negative, it subtracts from the statistics.

I don't care if he gets worse but I hope he is at least staying home.

I haven't. The account I had on file for direct deposit is closed so it appears I'll be getting a check mailed. The IRS website is still offline so I can't check on the status.

Yeah I just tried to check mine as well. It seems like a lot of married people and those with dependents have gotten theirs. My single/unmarried friends seem to be waiting for theirs.

what's the income cutoff for this stimulus? (I lost track of how that all shook out.) I'm single, so if that's a thing, that could be why I'm waiting, but I was over the threshold for the first one, so if it's the same, I could be getting nothing again.

I believe for single earners, it’s under $75,000 for the full payment and nothing if over $87,000

87k and single.... i'm daydreaming about all the things I could do!  Pretty sure I would need to make about 1.4 million with my wife and two kids for an equivalent.  Funny how it seems the cost goes up exponentially with kids!

We got our stimulus money today ($3,000 since we have three kids).   It's going straight to my savings account.

$75K for single earners; $150K for couples.  It's all or nothing I believe as you said.

The threshhold made little sense.  The money should go to those who truly need it, which I suspect most of the people who post here don't.  It's all funny money anyways....the repercussions of printing trillions out of thin air have yet to be realized.

Isn't the point of stimulus for people to take it and spend it to stimulate the economy? Those that need it will use it for essentials and those that don't should spend it at the businesses that are suffering.

I suppose the purpose of the money depends on who you ask. I'm sure some see it as critical direct relief to those in need, while others see it more as a macro economic stimulus program. Given the Fed has spent the last 10 yrs trying to push a string with its various 'stimulus' measures to the tune of far more trillions that this, I have a feeling the macro economic value of stimulus in a demand poor economy like the US is probably over-rated, though it is certainly true that writing checks to consumers is at least a far better way to do stimulus than having the Fed create deposits for bankers - as Screwball used to say, the Fed would have done a lot better for all the trillions they have spent if they had just shoveled it out of helicopters.

As noted, too many who don't need this shot are not going to spend it for it to be very effective stimulus. If you want effective federally funded fiscal stimulus, give employers tax credits for raising the wages of their bottom tier employees.
