Coronavirus: Coming to a Neighborhood Near You?

Did he IDK ask the people running a nursing home?   I mean it's their job to keep their people healthy.  Literally what people pay them for.

Are nursing homes in Michigan not licensed and regulated by the state?  They are here.  That regulating body should be responsible for data collection and rules enforcement.

yes regulated by the state.  Nursing homes are also responsible for both data collection and rules enforcement as well.

It just so happens that when you want to write a hit piece on the government, you don't ask the non-government questions I guess.

It was a fairly general question pertaining to nursing homes (plural) not a specific nursing home.  Seems reasonable to me to go to the agency responsible for collecting this data and expect them to have it.

I re-read the responses to the questions,  none of the answers indicated they did not have the data.   The answers indicated that the person answering did not know whether they had the data, and in one instance, didn't believe there was a database, which is a different question than whether they have the data.

If he really wanted to know why people are dying at the nursing homes, like his headline purports to ask, he really truly could ask the nursing homes.    But no, he didn't.   He clearly just wanted to trash the government.

The guy was too lazy to go looking himself and probably asked a Facebook group

And it’s also possible that in the leduff style he ambushed these folks with questions that they didn’t immediately have answers to but could have probably provided if so inclined.

I’m still trying to figure out his point about the nursing home workers having Covid. Does he think the workers never leave the site? It seems fairly likely that these workers have lives outside their job and socialize with friends and family like everyone else appears to be doing.

I certainly don't do a good job of expressing my thoughts on this site if you compare me to Stan.  I'm just not one of those name (R) = bad and name (D) = good type people.  Name (R) = bad certainly is good money if you're a betting man after what Trump has done to the party, but again, alone those designations mean nothing.

"Stan" comparisons are weak, unwarranted, and demonstrate you are making good points that challenge the groupthink mentality of "all Ds good, all Rs bad" this forum has unfortunately turned in to.  Whitmer is glorified here as much as Trump is demonized, and there is little tolerance for valid criticism of the way she has unilerataly acted during the pandemic.  Keep up the good work!

Funny, there was plenty of criticism around here of Whitmer during the BLM protests. Perhaps you weren't around to whine that the forum was being unfair.

Also, Stan argued that this virus was no big deal and compared it to the flu. After 250,000 dead, I'm not sure that is the hill you want to die on. No pun intended.

It is the government's responsibility to monitor this and collect data, is it not?    I don't know who this guy is.  He may well be a jackass.  But I still don't find his questions to be unreasonable to be asked of those whose responsibility it is to monitor, enforce, and make decisions for all nursing home residents.

LeDuff is a jackass. He has a history of not getting facts straight. I'm not sure the "bureaucrats" as he put, simply said I don't know. Bureaucrat is also a vague term, so who knows who he actually talked to. This is the same guy who accused a Detroit cop as moonlighting as a stripper with no evidence. He's basically one of those shock tabloid type journalists who accost people on the street. Probably better suited for TMZ.

Charlie Leduff still has a journalistic job?

“Freelance” it appears. His wiki page says he was working as a handy man at American Coney Island.

He was arrested on opening day a few years ago for fighting and public urination in Corktown.  or maybe it was St. patrick's day.

Totally forgot about that. Pretty sure it was St Patrick's day.

Dogs do it. LeDuff was probably marking his territory and someone overstepped their bounds.

LeDuff drinks too much, but he also is working part time at American Coney Island so he can give his family health insurance as he continues to pursue journalism in this town.  He also volunteered down at TCF and while he stated there were legitimate voter issues that need to be dealt with, there was no sign of widespread fraud and went on Foxnews to make sure that audience knew it from someone actually in the building.  He interviewed the one Wayne County canvasser that is now trying to state his election approval was under duress and got him to confirm there was no mass 130k Biden vote dump.

If the article was from two weeks ago and detailed his election volunteering all of you would be pointing to it and applauding it "see, LeDuff was on the front lines and is proving Biden won, hip hip hooray for LeDuff and journalistic integrity!"

But no, he's critical of the State of Michigan's handling of something coronavirus related (which hints at a Whitmer failure) and instead:

* Why hasn't he asked the nursing homes instead of focusing on the gov't. - I still laugh that you are completely fine with holding the businesses 100% accountable and are fine with ignoring whether state oversight is actually doing their job or not.

* He's too lazy, probably asked a facebook group. -

* He ambushed these folks. - Asked people he were told would be in charge and unless they directed him elsewhere, expected answers....how unfair of him!

* He still has a journalistic job? - safe to say you think he shouldn't?

* He's a jackass - Some truth, guessing you're not saying it for any other reason to discredit further though.

* "Freelance" it appears.  - safe to say the quotes indicate something?

* He was arrested on opening day....  - true, what does that have to do with anything?

* Dogs do it, He was probably marking his territory... comparing to a dog.

I think he's pointing out that at no time did I ever say this virus is no big deal nor did I compare it to the flu.  I take that back, I have said and based on the science that I understood prior and continue to believe at this time, I did say that like the flu, I expected the the reprieve we experienced in the summer would not last into the fall/winter as everyone moved indoors.

He used Stan as someone who made good points and challenged the group think. He is probably the last person you would want to cite as someone challenging group think. He raised no good points. Basically said this virus was overblown and parroted whatever Trump and Fox News were saying. Just because someone is saying something different, doesn't mean it is right or should be acknowledged.

Wouldn't Kelly Stafford be considered high risk? I also thought the Stafford's left Michigan a while ago?

What kind of business is she talking about here? The new order is more about pausing youth sports and other mass gathering type things, isn’t it? I guess if someone decided to open a dine-in restaurant over the past couple months they might take a hit here.

Or maybe she’s taking about all of the new small business bowling alleys and ice rinks.

I want Kelly Stafford to tell us what she can’t do right now in this “dictatorship” that she would otherwise be doing.

He was responding to me, after I was responding to someone that told Yoda not to talk to the "Stans of the world".
